Apple releases iOS 5.0.1 with battery improvements, security fixes
Apple has released iOS 5.0.1, a minor software update designed to fix battery life issues among other things. As we reported earlier, Apple had seeded the fix to some iDevice owners who had been seeing those problems. This is the first update that is available over-the-air (to the general public), for those with iOS 5.0 on their devices. Apple added the ability to update its iOS platform OTA in iOS 5.
Those who had late version of the iOS 5 beta were able to update to the final version OTA. While earlier reports were that iOS 5.0.1 wasn't showing up via OTA, we can confirm it's now available via that method. Naturally, you can also update by cabling your device and using iTunes.
To do an OTA update, click on Settings > General > Software Update. Then click Download and Install to start the upgrade process. If your battery is below 50 percent and you’re not connected to the power source, the update won’t install.
Here are the release notes:

Apple iOS 5 releases today!

Apple iOS 5 happens to be one of the most searched items on the internet today essentially because its release date is being revealed today. All those who are eager to find out when iOS 5 will come out must stay put and tuned as the new operating system upgrade will arrive on Wednesday, October 12 (NY Time). To update your iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPad 2, 3rd and 4th gen iPod Touch, you still need to connect to iTunes 10.5.
Yesterday Apple released the new iTunes version and today the new operating system will come out. Customers, application developers and investors have their eyes glued as today the operating system is actually going to be made public.
New features of the iOS 5 are notification center, dedicated camera button support, iMessage instant messaging application, Twitter integration, PC free that will allow the iOS 5-powered device to update its operating system wirelessly, and the new iCloud service from Apple.
Plenty of analysts have given their reviews on the upcoming software. To get better insight in several features of iOS 5 you may read what Gregg Keizer reports. “With a new iOS comes a new iTunes: iTunes 10.5 will be required to synchronize an iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch powered by iOS 5. Other features bundled in the update include Wi-Fi synchronization. iTunes 10.5 made no mention of "iTunes Match” will scan a customer's iTunes collection, match those tunes that were not bought through Apple...then make the matches available for instant downloading to a maximum of 10 devices”
Many people are advising that an upgrade to iOS 5 will be a smooth transition it actually means you may get to clean up your device and let go of apps that you no longer use. It is advised to back up the iPhone or iPad before you upgrade. Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing, said iPhone 4S plus iOS 5 plus iCloud is a breakthrough combination that makes the iPhone 4S the best iPhone ever,” “While our competitors try to imitate iPhone with a checklist of features, only iPhone can deliver these breakthrough innovations that work seamlessly together.”
Even the employees and the engineers who worked on the software are eager for it to release so they can gauge feedback. iOS 5 is a change after all, lets embrace it like many others.
