Rapper Heavy D was working on a huge comeback before he passed away last year, but some of the profits might have gone straight to the State of California ... because Heavy had a pretty sizable tax debt.
According to docs filed last month by the Franchise Tax Board in California, Heavy D (real name Dwight E. Myers) has a tax lien against him in the amount of $43,967.87. The lien applies to the years 2008 and 2009.
Heavy D passed away last November after suffering a pulmonary embolism outside his Beverly Hills home. He was 44.

CAUSE OF HEAVY D's DEATH REAVELED
Seven weeks after his shocking passing, the cause of death of Jamaican-American actor, rapper, record producer and singer Heavy D has been revealed.
According to TMZ, a conclusive autopsy report shows the 44-year-old rapper died from a ‘pulmonary embolism caused by deep leg vein thrombosis’.
A pulmonary embolism is a blockage of the main artery of the lung or one of its branches by a substance. It is often caused by blood clots which travel in from other parts of the body. Doctors say the blood clot had formed in Heavy D’s legs.
It is now believed that his long flight trip from Europe back to Los Angeles may have contributed to the anomaly. Heavy had performed at the Michael Jackson memorial concert in Wales.
The L.A. County Coroner’s report had stated that the rapper died of natural causes.
The rapper was buried on Friday, November 18, 2011 at the historic Grace Baptist Church of Mount Vernon.

November 7-13: Heavy D Had Resumed Weight Loss Plan In Last Months
Family, friends, and fans of hip-hop star Heavy D are still in shock over his untimely death Tuesday in front of his Beverly Hills home. As a private funeral and public memorial are being planned in New York next week, more details about his struggles with his weight are coming to light.
While the cause of death has not yet been determined, it is believed to be related to a respiratory issue. According to TMZ, Heavy D, who was 44-years-old and weighed 344 pounds at the time of death had recently resumed a workout regimen. He was also an established actor, appearing on "Law & Order: SVU," "Boston Public," and the new comedy blockbuster "Tower Heist."
One of Heavy's trainers discussed a fitness program with him three months ago at the Ultra Body Fitness gym in West Hollywood, TMZ reports. In 2008, this same trainer, named Tony, helped Heavy D lose 150 pounds. Heavy D was reportedly frequenting a number of local gyms, and doing a variety of exercises including running, hiking, and boxing. Tony described Hev as a hard worker, recalling times when he worked out nearly every day.
Heavy also experienced another significant weight loss in 2002. Then, he lost 135 pounds, an accomplishment motivated by his desire to secure more acting work. In a 2003 interview with the Television Critics Association, Heavy recalled advice from a director. "I went on a couple auditions, and one director was kind enough to say, 'Look, you would've had this part but you're not fitting, you're stifling yourself," Heavy told TCA. "He was right. I kind of always knew it in the back of my mind, and I just woke up on a Tuesday and I just kept going."
Heavy D will indeed be missed. Ironically, he released his last album, 'Love Opus," in September, and left the simple yet poignant message "BE INSPIRED!" on his Twitter page the day before he died.

Details Emerge In Heavy D's Death, Possibly Related To Pneumonia Complication
The veteran rapper passed away in Los Angeles, California earlier this afternoon. Mount Vernon, New York emcee-turned-actor Heavy D (born Dwight Myers) has been reported dead today. He was 44 years of age. TMZ.com reports that Heavy D was found unconscious near the entrance to his Beverly Hills, California home and rushed to the hospital. Details are still emerging regarding the longtime Uptown Records rapper's cause of death, however peers and loved ones including rapper-turned-deejay/photographer D-Nice and author/activist dream hampton have publicly mourned the rapper's loss just moments ago.
The Jamaican-born emcee was leader of Heavy D & The Boyz, a late 1980s Hip Hop group which released five albums, all on the Uptown label. The group included G-Whiz, DJ Eddie F., and the late "Trouble" T. Roy, who helped inspire Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth's "They Reminisce Over You (T.R.O.Y.)." Between 1987 and 1994, Heavy D & The Boyz worked with the likes of Notorious B.I.G., DJ Premier, Marley Marl and longtime affiliate and fellow Mount Vernon native Pete Rock.
As a solo artist, Heavy D remained close with Uptown Records executive Sean "Diddy" Combs and the mogul's Bad Boy Records imprint, despite never releasing a Bad Boy album. Recently, Heavy D released Grammy-nominated Reggae album Vibes on the Stride label in 2008. Previously, D had released Waterbed Hev in 1997 and a self-titled 1999 album.
The group performed the title track to FOX's In Living Color show, and appeared on the program. As an actor, Heavy D would appear in films such as Life. At the time of his death, Heavy D was at work on an album called Love Opus, set to feature Anthony Hamilton and Carl Thomas. Just weeks ago, Heavy D performed at the 2011 BET Hip Hop Awards. It was days after Heavy D had performed his hit Michael Jackson collaboration, "Jam," alongside LaToya Jackson.
According to TMZ, an associate of Heavy D claims that he had pneumonia. Though it is unclear if his death was related to his ailment, he had returned from shopping when he suddenly fell ill. A designer who was in the building called 911 and sent him to the hospital. Others claim that he died from a heart attack, though that is unconfirmed.
