J COLE TO HEADLINE BIG BROTHER AFRICA 7 LUNCH

The 7th edition of M-Net’s most watched reality series, Big Brother Africa, is already eliciting anticipation and excitement among fans, as it reveals new thrills leading to its May 6 return to TV.

Apart from the fact that this year’s show will see contestants doubling up to enter the series, with the prize money for one winner pegged at $300, 000, organizers have revealed more pleasant surprises in their kitty.

Already, M-Net and series producers, Endemol say the launch of this season of the show, which is called ‘Big Brother Stargame’, will feature performances from major hit-makers, led by Grammy-nominated American rapper J Cole.

‘One of the main reasons for the success of Big Brother, in Africa and abroad, is that it creates its own stars from the minute housemates step into the spotlight,’ says M-Net Africa Managing Director Biola Alabi.

‘Of course, we’re thrilled that we can kick off Big Brother Stargame with an international star whose incredible talent is making him one of the hottest names in music today. J.Cole is fast becoming a superstar, an amazing artist who is taking the world by storm. We are very pleased that he will be performing for the very first time in Africa on our stage!’

With J.Cole’s visit facilitated by Los Angeles based One Entertainment (which facilitated Busta Rhymes’ appearance last year), the 27-year-old star is scheduled to perform three songs, to be revealed closer to the time, at the launch of Big Brother Stargame. He will also be filmed for a special insert on Channel O during this time talking about his work, life and ambitions.

J. COLE SAYS HE WAS PREPARED FOR LETDOWN WITH GRAMMY NOMINATIONS

The Roc Nation rapper says that he didn't expect to get nominated for Best New Artist.

J. Cole was recently honored alongside The Band Perry, Skrillex, Nicki Minaj and Bon Iver for Best New Artist at the 2012 Grammys, but he didn't expect to get the nod. During an interview with LA Times' Pop & Hiss, the Roc Nation rapper explained his surprise in learning of his nomination and that if he doesn't take home the gramophone, he won't catch any feelings.

"I wasn’t thinking people had seen what I had done, so I had already kind of prepared myself for the letdown. But it caught me off guard," he said. "It would be incredible to win. That’s an understatement … since I didn’t even expect to get nominated. But I’m not walking in there with the attitude that I’m the guy [to beat]. But if I won, I’d know why. And if I didn’t win, I’d understand."

He also spoke on why he thinks his debut album Cole World: The Sideline Story struck a chord with mainstream audiences. Cole was unsure if his fans would actually purchase the album, leaving him on edge.

"I don’t think it was one thing. I think it was a combination of putting out quality projects like mixtapes that sounded like albums. We only call them mixtapes because they are free. And I’ve been touring for two and a half years straight. I just put the album out two months ago. I already had a strong foundation of fans, I just wasn’t sure that they would buy the album."
