7 Tips for Getting Pregnant Faster.. dos and don'ts of increasing your chances of getting pregnant

There are some things you can do -- or not do -- to help increase your chances of getting pregnant ASAP. Read on for seven expert-approved tips for getting pregnant.

1. Do get a preconception checkup.

Before you officially start trying, get a preconception checkup. Ask your doctor about prenatal vitamins that contain folic acid, which will decrease your risk of having a baby with neural tube defects, such as spina bifida. "Do this the cycle before you start trying," Hillard tells WebMD. "If you have any underlying medical problems, they need to be under control before you can safely become pregnant."

2. Do get to know your cycle.

Sex education is key, says Hillard. "Women need to really understand their cycle and when they are most likely to become pregnant," she says. Ovulation is the best time to get pregnant.

"Being aware of the symptoms of ovulation [which include] changes in cervical mucus such as a thin watery, mucus-like discharge is also helpful," she says. Other signs of ovulation can include a one-sided twinge of pain. "This is the time to focus on having sex."

Ovulation prediction kits can also help predict the best time to get pregnant, says James Goldfarb, MD, director of the infertility service at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland. "They assure a patient that they are ovulating, and if you are having infrequent intercourse, this tells you when to have it to increase your chances of getting pregnant "

The first day of your menstrual period is day one. "Start testing on day nine and keep going until you get a positive," advises Joanne Piscitelli, MD, an associate professor of gynecology at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, N.C. Women with a 28-day cycle tend to ovulate on day 14, but many women have longer or shorter cycles, so casting a wide net can help you be sure.

Use of birth control may muddy the playing field. Many women spend half their life trying not to get pregnant by using birth control pills or other contraception methods, but is it OK to start trying to get pregnant the minute you scrap your birth control method?

"Years ago, the conventional wisdom was to wait a certain amount of time after stopping birth control to try to get pregnant but that is no longer true. You can start trying to conceive right after you stop birth control," Goldfarb says. The only downside is that you may not ever get your period, so tracking ovulation may be difficult, and it will be hard to date the pregnancy initially. For this reason, "some people may feel better waiting until they get one period on their own," he says.

3. Don't worry about the best positions for getting pregnant.

Myths abound about the best positions for getting pregnant, but they are just that -- myths. There is really no scientific evidence saying that the missionary position is better than the woman being on top when it comes to maximizing your chances of making a baby.

"Very rarely, a woman's cervix is in an unusual position where certain positions can make a difference," Goldfarb tells WebMD.

Certain gravity-defying positions, such as sitting or standing during intercourse, however, may discourage sperm from traveling upstream. "It's a matter of gravity [and] you don't want all the semen to run out -- and semen are quick little critters," Hillard says. "Having sex with the man on top [missionary position] may best allow sperm to pool in the vagina," she suggests.

4. Do lay low right after intercourse.

You have probably heard this one before -- lie in bed with your feet in the air after having sex to increase your chances of getting pregnant. The verdict? Not (totally) true. "It's good advice to lay in bed for 10 to 15 minutes after intercourse, but you don't need your feet in the air," Goldfarb says. "Your pelvis does not move when you put your legs in the air." Don't go the bathroom during this time either, he says. "If you wait 10 to 15 minutes, the sperm that is going to get into the cervix will be in the cervix."

5. Don't overdo it.

Having sex like rabbits even during ovulation will not necessarily increase your chances of getting pregnant. It may seem like a good idea, but some men's sperm count will deplete if they ejaculate too often, Goldfarb says. "In general, every other night around the time of ovulation helps increase your chance of getting pregnant," he says. Sperm can live up to 72 hours after intercourse. That said, if you and your mate enjoy having sex more frequently, he can get a semen analysis after he has ejaculated several times in a row. This test can tell if his sperm quality or quantity is depleted by frequent ejaculation. If it is not, then feel free to have sex as often as you like.

Speaking of sperm, "wearing tight-fitting clothing can negatively affect sperm count," Piscitelli says. So too can spending time in hot tub or Jacuzzi. Your man's cell phone habits may also affect your chances of becoming pregnant. A recent study in the journal Fertility and Sterility showed that men who used a hands-free device with a cell phone and kept their phone close to their testicles had impaired sperm quality. And while you are telling your partner where to keep his cell phone, you may want to tell him to pass on the edamame and other soy foods. Men who eat a lot of soy foods may have a lower sperm concentration than men who don't eat soy foods, according to a study published online in Human Reproduction.

6. Do de-stress any way you can.

Trying to get pregnant can be stressful, and stress can certainly derail ovulation, Hillard says. It can also cause sexual dysfunction and performance anxiety for men. "There is some evidence that acupuncture can help reduce stress and increase your chances of becoming pregnant," Goldfarb says. While excessive alcohol use is not wise when trying to get pregnant, "a mid-cycle glass of wine to relax and have intercourse can be helpful," he says. Bottom line: Anything that helps you de-stress and takes the pressure off trying to get pregnant will help you increase your chances of getting pregnant.

7. Do lead a healthy lifestyle.

Exercising is a good thing, but when you are trying to conceive, you can get too much of a good thing, Goldfarb says. "Too much exercise can cause you not to ovulate," he says, explaining that excessive exercise can stop the pituitary gland from telling the ovaries to ovulate. While this threshold is largely individual, he says "exercising seven days a week for 45 to 50 minutes a day will cause a problem in the majority of women."

That doesn't mean you should stop exercising the minute you start trying to get pregnant. If you are a hard-core exerciser and are still getting your period regularly, your exercise regimen is most likely not a problem, he says. But, Goldfarb adds, your menstrual period is not the first thing to go if you are exercising too heavily. "The first thing that happens is that you have a shorter second half of your cycle. You should have a period 14 days after you ovulate, but too much exercise can shorten this phase." This would be the first hint that you need to curtail your fitness regimen. He suggests tracking how long it takes you to get a period after you ovulate as the best way to know for sure.

Goldfarb says the best way to increase your chances of getting pregnant while getting the health benefits of regular exercise is to engage in moderate exercise, such as a half an hour of aerobic activity like walking three times a week. Watch what you eat, too; dieting is a double-edged sword for women trying to get pregnant. "If you are obese and you lose weight, your period may come back, but if you are too thin and not getting your period, you need to gain weight to get pregnant," Goldfarb says.

Stop smoking to increase your chances of getting pregnant," Hillard says. Aside from all the other negative health effects of smoking, this nasty habit also decreases fertility. "It affects estrogen levels and ovulation."

Eighty-five percent of women will become pregnant within one year of trying," Hillard adds." If it is taking longer than a year, consult a doctor for an infertility workup. For women older than 35, some doctors recommend consulting a specialist after six months of trying.

Eldee's facial bumps cause fight in Hakym The Dream’s Scoobi Doo video

THE video shoot of Hakym The Dream’s new video Scoobi Doo that featured rap sensation Eldee and Karen Igho, winner of the last edition of the Big Brother Afcrica show in a cameo appearance may have started gathering ontroversy even before its planned release on November 1. The video is being released on Serengeti Music.

What went down on location of the shoot has pitched music video director, Clarence Peters and Eldee against each other. They reportedly do not see eye to eye anymore after the incident. Everything was fine on that fateful day as revealed by a source present at the location. Karen came very early to set. She arrived at 10am, Eldee was billed to show up by 3pm and when he did, Clarence shot his part quickly because he had said earlier that he was busy with the Hennessy Artistry Show.

Eldee finished his part in two hours and left. Karen who had only done her first few scenes by then began to act up, saying she's has to go because she came early and she “is a star too”, and Clarence was not treating her like one. She consequently took off her costumes and walked off the set but was later persuaded to come back by her friends to finish the shoot.

The Tsunami later came when Clarence was editing the video after the successful shoot. Hakym and his team were pleased with Clarence's work, but Eldee saw the first cut and said he didn't like some part of his verse because according to him, the bumps on his face were too conspicuous. He said he was trying hard to protect his (fine boy) image, so to him, its better Clarence uses only one shot than allow his bumpy jaw to show. He blew his tops saying Clarence should know better as he is a director. “You are supposed to cover it (bumps) with make up or take a less tight shot,” he fumed.

Clarence took him up too accusing the rap star of always picking holes in almost everything and, that he is not supposed to complain because it is not his video. “If the owners of the video are satisfied, then I have no business with Eldee,” he retorted. The director was over heard by a source telling whoever cares to listen that Eldee has other videos where his bumps showed yet he didn't complain. He said he has no power to change Eldee’s skin texture and the rapper should make do with the job as it is, as he cannot use computer to change Eldee's skin and “besides I have just a few shots of Eldee that doesn't have the bumps, he is not going to make my video boring and jeopardize my work because Eldee has bumps,” he fumed.

The source fingered ego as the root cause of this tussle between the two talented young men. He revealed that the duo may have had a run in before the Hakym The Dream’s video as they were exuding so much negative vibes against each other because Clarence vowed never to do any alteration on the video. He was however prevailed upon by friends and he turned the shot that showed Eldee’s bumps into multiple shots to reduce the focus on artiste’s face.

So watch out for Eldee’s bumps in Hakym The Dream’s Scoobi Doo video.

Court orders NDLEA to produce Baba Suwe Featured

A Lagos High Court, in Ikeja, on Wednesday ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency to produce Nollywood actor, Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, in court on Tuesday, to allay the fears of his family members over his state of health.

Omidina on Friday, sued the NDLEA, demanding N100m from the agency for allegedly violating his fundamental human rights. He contended that the anti-drug body violated his right by keeping him in its custody for more than the constitutionally-allowed 24 hours since October 12.

Justice Yetunde Idowu ordered the NDLEA to produce Omidina “physically in court” on Tuesday following an application by his counsel, Mr. Bamidele Aturu. Idowu said the actor’s physical presence in court would allay the apprehension of both his family and the public over his state of health and his safety in the NDLEA custody.

The NDLEA, represented by its Director, Prosecution and Legal Services, Mr. Femi Oloruntoba, acceded to the prayer seeking that Baba Suwe be produced in court at the next adjourned date. Oloruntoba however, raised concern about the security challenges likely to be introduced by the crowd which Baba Suwe’s presence in court might attract.

But Idowu, dismissed any fear concerning security, saying “we have to consider the mind of the family.” She assured that measures would be put in place to ensure security by keeping such a crowd away from the court premises

TUFACE IDIBIA OPENS UP ON THE SUCESS STORY OF HIS HIT TRACK AFRICAN QUEEN + WHY HE LEFT KENNIS MUSIC

Every artiste has a defining song. For Nigeria’s hip-pop king Tuface whose real name is Innocent Idibia, global recognition and artistic success came by the way of African Queen, a love song in praise of the beauty of the African woman. Tuface might have meant African Queen for a particular woman but today,he is entangled in a love triangle involving not less than three African Queens who have given him five children. It is not a situation that Tuface finds funny but he cannot help it.

In a recent interview,Tuface opens up on Nigerian Hip-pop,why he left Kennis Music and the success story of his song African Queen. He said; African Queen is one of the most successful songs outside Africa so far.

I can say it was a song that really made me as an artiste. It was written by me and Blackface. It was just a desire to do a love song to show respect and love for the African woman. That’s how it came up. We wrote the lyrics and melody together. I and Blackface wrote the first and second verse. But I wrote the last part of it which says: ”you know what I am feeling in my soul.” He is not claiming he owns the song.He is not claiming he wrote the song only by himself.

People are just trying to be mischievous by saying that Blackface owned that song. That’s just all. He has the right to the song as well, so I was not surprised he did his own version. Plantation Boys is not totally dead.I believe one day we are still going to come together as a group. It’s still going to happen. We are still going to come together in future. We have done it before,we are still going to do it again.

After Face to Face, the next album was Grass to Grace. There you found me singing a chorus line: Hey brother hey…. As you see me so…” It was also a success. It was huge. From there I left Kenny’s Music to start Hypertek Entertainment,my own label. I had to grow.I am not going to be under a label forever. I had to grow on my own as well. My contract expired and I had to go.

Kenny knew I had this Hypertek thing on my mind and he encouraged me and that’s what I am doing. Hypertek is owned by a guy and a guy. I am the CEO of Hypertek Entertainment. And I am the only artiste on my label for now.But it’s more like an entertainment company for now.

We do shows,we do events,we produce events,we produce end-of-year parties. In the the beginning,I was not ready for the record label aspect. But now I am ready.I am about to sign some new artistes on the label. People talk about Kenny’s Music buying me this and that while I was on that label.

Yes,It’s true but one thing most artistes don’t understand about a record label is that they buy you house, they buy you a car but it’s all debt. You are still going to pay back. For me,I didn’t do that kind of thing. I Just wanted to work,my money is my money. They fulfill their contract,I fulfill mine. And that’s it.Everything I owned under Kenny’s Music,I actually paid for it. I owned it.

Asked about Nigerian hip-pop,he said When it comes to Nigerian music of today, I am just going to call two names, because I don’t want to involve myself in controversy. If I start reeling names,I would offend a lot of people who would expect me to name them as among my favourites. But I am just going to call two names.Asha and MI.MI is amazing.

He is deep, intellectually talented. He is got it all.I first met MI at one show and I said Wow! Who is this guy? And that was it.He is going to go really far.It is not for me to discuss the originality of his rap. These days, when you start talking about originality, you can’t really lay claim to any original thing.Everything has already been done. But what I can say is that he is talented. He knows his onions.

He’s intelligent.Same with Asha. She is not forcing it.She does it effortlessly. And then she has depth. She doesn’t just want to sell S*x.Most of the females artistes these days, they just want to sell s*x. The first time I heard her sing,I was amazed.I shouted: Who is this? The song I first heard was Eiye adaba.I was blown away.

Then I heard Jailer.I am talking to you Jailer… I said.” Wow,who is this? And that was before the album even came out. The second album is also brilliant. My baby is gone, gone, gone. I think the Nigerian music scene is exploding.People are coming up strong.

Samson Siasia Sacked From Super Eagles Job

Super Eagles Coach Samson Siasia has been fired by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), the BBC reports. We’re told his sack today Friday, October 28, 2011 is based on his failure to take the country to the forthcoming 2012 African Cup of Nations.

According to the BBC, 11 members of the NFF went into a short meeting and the decision to relieve Siasia of his duties was made after its technical committee had recommended the dismissal of the ex-Super Eagles player.

Siasia’s job had been under the knife after he failed to qualify for the 2012 edition of the Nations cup to be held in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea. NFF President Alhaji Aminu Maigari was said to have told the board within their short meet that the decision wouldn’t be reversed, according to PM News.

However, sources have also revealed that four out of the 11 NFF scribes are not happy with the decision as they feel Siasia has done way better than his predecessor since he picked up the job as senior coach from Austin Eguaveon in November 2010.

Siasia is yet to make any statement.

How I met my wife - Obiwon

Obiwon Obiora:

I met her at her sister's wedding. I came because of the groom actually. He was a client of mine when I was working in the bank. This was July 14th 2007. I reluctantly attended the guy's wedding and when I came, it was almost done. I wanted to see the groom, say hi and go. The first person I saw was Nkechi. I asked her the whereabouts of the groom and she took me to him. Afterwards, she and I exchanged pleasantries and exchanged phone numbers. Now, we are married.

Obiwon's wife Nkechi Ezeife just graduated from Nnamdi Azikiwe University where she read Banking and Finance.

I think I need to start going to weddings o. Since women are meeting husbands there...:-).  But usually I avoid weddings. I feel like it's one of the most boring gatherings ever! The last wedding I went to, I nearly pulled the weave from my head.
