Clarion Chukwura turns deaconess

Clarion Chukwura has not been as active as she used to be on television. The reason is not far-fetched. The screen diva delved into fashion, following the launch of her clothing line, Clarion Chukwura Clothing (C3).

Now, it seems Chukwura might be more religious than she makes out. Believe it or not, she is about to be ordained as a deaconess at the Jesus Dominion Assembly, Omole Phase I, Lagos State. Chukwura told us in a telephone interview that she was very happy about the ordination.

“I’m very excited about my ordination. Contrary to what people think, I’m a very spiritual person. I don’t joke with my spirituality,” she says.

STAR ACTRESS GRACE AMAH IS IN TOWN

The last time we read about her was on this page and that was when the bigger gist merchant reported that the Ebonyi-born top Nollywood actress Grace Oma Amah had successfully ‘downloaded’ in Queen’s land.

Even when the bigger gist merchant spoke to her from her base in London she didn’t sound at all that she would be home anytime soon.

But we gathered that the pretty mother of one is in town. Someone hinted that he ran into the actress of Atlanta fame around the Yaba area of Lagos with her baby strapped securely in front of her.

Nigerian Nurse's Licence Withdrawn In UK For Calling on Jesus For Help

A 51 year old Nigerian-born UK resident nurse, Omolayo Abayomi, has had her Nurse's licence withdrawn by the UK Nursing and Midwifery Council for throwing her hands into the air and begging for Jesus to help, as a baby she was supposed to be taking care of suffered a heart attack.

According to Daily Mail UK, Omolayo Abayomi 'panicked' when the child, who suffered from a chronic lung disease, turned blue and stopped breathing in his cot at home. The nurse called for divine intervention more than 20 times before the vulnerable boy's mother told her to 'shut up'. 'The nurse was constantly saying "Jesus help him" and waving her arms around,' a hearing was told. What is wrong with these oyibo people...don't they know in Nigeria, we can't do anything without calling the name of Jesus?...:-). The nurse 'provided wholly inadequate care' by leaving the frantic mother to resuscitate her lifeless son, while the father dialled 999. Abayomi was found guilty of a string of charges by the Nursing and Midwifery Council at a hearing in central London. Sydney Topping, for Abayomi, insisted his client's behaviour had represented no more than a 'bad day at the office' and urged the panel to let her off with a caution.
'Once in a while you have a bad day at the office,' he said.

'I would suggest that on April 8 the registrant had a bad day at the office. It was no worse than that. She has bounced back since then.' The hearing heard that the child, referred to a Patient A, and his twin sister were born three months premature at Homerton University Hospital in Hackney, east London, and as a result suffered from a number of serious illnesses and so required round-the-clock care.

Joanna Dirmikis, for the NMC, said Abayomi had been employed by private nursing firm Paediatric Nursing Link to look after the infant, who required 22 hours of nursing care every day.
The parents were woken by a knock on their bedroom door at 5am on April 8, 2007, to find their son lying lifeless after suffering respiratory cardiac arrest, the panel was told.

'While Mrs A was trying to resuscitate the child, Mr A called 999,' said Miss Dirmikis.
'The twin sister of the little boy was also present during the incident and can be heard crying in the background during the call.'

'She panicked and at one stage even summoned divine intervention, calling for Jesus,' she added. Paramedics rushed the boy to Whipps Cross Hospital in Leytonstone, east London, before he was taken to Great Ormond Street Hospital on the same day for further treatment. Giving evidence, a tearful Mrs A said Abayomi had effectively 'abandoned' her during the incident.

'The nurse was constantly saying "Jesus help him" and waving her arms around,' she said. 'She said it more than 20 times. I felt I had to do everything - at that point she was doing nothing to help my son. 'She never offered to take the lead at any point and at no point did she suggest calling 999. 'I can't change what's happened to my son, I know I did the best for him but the nurse just completely abandoned her duty.

'If I can save just one other person from having to go through what we have been through, then that's what I want to do.' The panel heard Patient A, now aged five, made a full recovery from the incident but is still totally dependent on others for his care.

Abaymo claimed the mother had pushed her away and refused to let her help.
She denied calling out for Jesus, panicking and failing to provide care or basic life support.
The nurse further denied failing to properly handover the case to paramedics and making inaccurate and false notes about the incident.

She was cleared of specific charges that she suctioned the child's tracheostomy tube or that she failed to record observations taken but was found guilty of misconduct and ruled unfit to continue working without restrictions.

Striking Abayomi off, panel chair John Williams said: 'This was a failure to accept responsibility for her role in the events by the registrant. 'She has shown a lack of empathy with the parents of the child and there has been no admission or apology, and therefore no insight. 'This failure is incompatible with her continuing to be a registered nurse.'

Baba Suwe: NDLEA pumped water into my anus to no avail

Nollywood actor, Babatunde Omidina a.k.a. Baba Suwe, said on Friday that the officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency “pumped water” into his anus, apparently in their bid to make him defecate the narcotic substances he allegedly ingested. He told a Lagos High Court in Ikeja that he defecated several times after “the water was pumped” into him.

On confirming from the NDLEA, represented by its Director of Prosecution and Legal Services, Mr. Femi Oloruntoba, that Omidina had not excreted any narcotic substance since Tuesday when he was granted bail, Justice Yetunde Idowu asked him to go home, having fulfilled the other conditions of the bail.

Idowu had ordered on Tuesday that the NDLEA should release Baba Suwe from its custody if by Friday, no banned substances were found in his excretion. His lawyer, Mr. Bamidele Aturu, said Baba Suwe told him just before the court sitting that he had defected more than 25 times since his arrest on October 12.

Omidina stepped out of the court room at about 11.30 am to meet a large crowd, comprising his fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry. He was immediately whisked away by some of his friends in a blue car, as the large cheering crowd surged forward to catch a glimpse of him.

Aturu earlier told the court that Baba Suwe’s N500,000 bail with one surety had been perfected. The judge asked him to go home, urging him to take care of himself and “enjoy the sallah with your family.” She, however, acceded to the NDLEA’s request that the actor be made to report at the agency’s office in Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Thursday for further investigation.

The judge granted the request with an undertaking from the NDLEA that Baba Suwe would not be held in the office for more than two hours. While responding to the judge’s question, Omidina told the court that he was taken to a hospital that he could not identify on Wednesday, at about 9 am and remained there till 9 pm.

He said, “The day after I was granted bail (Wednesday), they just came at about 9 am and took me to a hospital in Victoria Island. When we got to the hospital, they put something in my mouth and another in my anus. “They now pumped water into my anus. After they pumped water into my anus I started defecating. “I defecated again several times on getting to their office.” Oloruntoba said he was not aware of the development when asked by the judge.

But Baba Suwe was able to identify one of the operatives of the agency, who took him to the hospital. The NDLEA official confirmed that the actor was taken to the agency’s laboratory on Wednesday morning. He said Omidina was taken to the agency’s hospital in Ikoyi, from where a doctor directed that he should be taken to their laboratory in Lekki.

He told the court that it was the doctor who was in a better position to give a report and the nature of examination performed on the actor. Idowu said, “This is not proper. This is a human being and not a robot. I don’t feel comfortable with this. At least, the man deserves some respect regardless of the fact that he is in your custody. “You are doing that kind of test without his consent and the knowledge of his counsel.” The judge was also dissatisfied that there was no result given to the effect of the test.
