‘Islamic Sex’ Manual Faces Ban In Malaysia

The Malaysian government has imposed a ban on the 115-page ‘Islamic Sex’ manual written by the founder and president of the Obedient Wives Club, Fauziah Arrifin, on grounds that the controversial manual might confuse Malaysian Muslims about ‘what constitutes acceptable religious teachings,’ gma news said.

The manual teaches women to "be submissive and keep their spouses happy in the bedroom", with passages educating couples on how they should physically and spiritually approach sex. Club leaders, who argued that a wife should serve as a ‘good sex worker’ and a ‘whore’ to her husband, said the manual was intended to be a spiritual guide read exclusively by club members ‘to help them understand better sex.’

Many Malaysians denounced the ‘club’ because it made a ‘mockery’ of modern gender roles where women hold prominent posts in government and in the private sector. As a result, the Malaysian government was imposing a fine of 5,000 ringgit for those who were caught in possession of the ‘book’ and 20,000 ringgit and an imprisonment of three years for those who makes copies for sale.

He club, which was believed to have at least 800 members in Malaysia and has branches in Indonesia, Singapore, Jordan and Britain, insisted the practice helped husbands to avoid committing adultery.
