KELVIN ETUHU TO BECOME POMPEY'S NEW MIDFIELD DYNAMO

Kelvin Etuhu is set to become Pompey’s new midfield dynamo, according to boss Michael Appleton.

The 23-year-old signed a deal for the rest of the season on Thursday, with an option for an extra year.

But after bursting through the youth ranks as a forward or a winger at Manchester City, the Pompey boss has earmarked a central role for his new recruit.

Appleton said, “I think central midfield is Kelvin’s best position but he can play anywhere across the midfield.

“I’ve also see him play up front or at full-back on loan for Cardiff. Hopefully, he can make an impact for us.

“He handles the ball well, he’s a good passer and I genuinely think he will give us an extra goal threat from midfield.

“You only have to watch him in training and see that he scores quite frequently.

“He will also give us a bit of extra edge and bite in the middle of the park.”

It’s a welcome new addition to the Blues ranks, with Etuhu set to replace the banned David Norris, who is out for three games after last week’s red card.

The former Ipswich man has also undergone surgery on a hernia problem which could extend his absence.

Appleton said, “With the suspension, it was an opportunity to get him (Norris) under the knife.”
