The recent attacks on churches by the Islamist Boko Haram sect has re-awaken the consciousness of the Christian Association of. Nigeria (CAN) who have now resolved that the Church cannot continue to watch some elements killing their members and destroying the house of God with not just course, hence the time has come to always fight back in the case of any further attack on the Church. In a meeting held at the National Ecomunican centre in Abuja, the CAN president had urged all Christians in Nigeria to employ the tactics of the old testament order. Just to confront the enemies of the church.
CAN had unanimously agreed to use all available security apparatus to defend the Church and had instructed all churches to employ some security strategies that can help them in their fight to defend the church. The catholic church has since adopted the CAN strategies and have stated that the history of the church cannot be separated from the constant fight against the enemies, hence the time has come to become more proactive in fighting the enemies of the church.
Speaking at the Papal’s ground in Kubwa, Abuja, the Parish priest stressed on the need to become more security conscious. He had instructed the congregation not to come to church with their hand bags or anything of that nature.
In his statement, nobody is expected to go to the car park until the church dismisses. This was for the safety. And the security of the church. A second collection was conducted in all catholic church in Nigeria in order to boost the internal security of the church.
The leader of radical Islamist sect, Boko Haram has challenged the authority of Nigeria’s president, Goodluck Jonathan in a rare online video, vowing more attacks in a nation increasingly overcome by unrest and divided by religion. Imam Abubakar Shekau said recent killings of Christians were justifiable revenge attacks and President Goodluck Jonathan had no power to stop the group’s insurgency, in the first video of him posted online, according to Reuters.
The 15 minute video of Abubakar Shekau posted on YouTube is similar in style to messages submitted by other Islamist groups like al Qaeda, a sign of the growing influence other jihadist movements are having on the sect. Boko Haram, whose name translates from the northern Hausa language as “Western education is sinful”, has been behind almost daily killings in its home base in the largely Muslim northeast, most recently targeting Christians.
“Christians, everyone knows what they have done to us and Muslims … we were attacked and we decided to defend ourselves and, because we were on the right path, Allah has made us stronger,” Shekau says in Hausa, sat in front of two Kalashnikov rifles and wearing a camouflage bullet proof jacket.
“Jonathan, (you) know full well that this thing is beyond your powers,” he added, referring to the president. Shekau is understood to have taken over control of Boko Haram, which wants sharia law more widely applied across Africa’s most populous nation, after the sect’s founder
Mohammed Yusuf was killed in police custody in 2009 following an uprising in which 700 people were killed.“Everyone knows how our leader was murdered and everyone knows the way the Muslims were killed,” Shekau says, remaining stony faced and calm throughout. “Catastrophe is caused by unbelief, unrest is unbelief, injustice is unbelief, democracy is unbelief and the constitution is unbelief.”
Boko Haram’s attacks began small scale – usually drive-by shootings on authority figures or drinking joints in their home town of Maiduguri, in the country’s remote northeast corner – but lately have become increasingly sophisticated and ambitious. In August last year, the sect carried out a suicide car bombing of the United Nations headquarters in the capital Abuja that killed 24 people. On Christmas Day it masterminded coordinated explosions against Christians, including one at St.
Theresa’s Catholic a church near Abuja that killed at least 37 people.The most recent attacks have targeted Christians but dozens of Muslims were killed by the sect last year. “Anyone who attacks us, we will attack him back even if he is a Muslim. Yobe’s government said on Wednesday it has banned the use of motorbikes, which have often been used in Boko Haram attacks, in volatile areas of the state.
The now dreaded Islamist group, Boko Haram, has issued a three-day ultimatum to all Christians living and doing business in the Northern part of Nigeria to vacate, adding that they are now ready to confront the military in areas where the federal government declared state of emergency.
Spokesman of the group, Abul Qaqa, told journalists on Sunday that...“We find it pertinent to state that soldiers will only kill innocent Muslims in the local government areas where the state of emergency was declared. We would confront them squarely to protect our brothers.”
Speaking in Hausa language, Qaqa said “we also wish to call on our fellow Muslims to come back to the north because we have evidence that they would be attacked. We are also giving a three-day ultimatum to the southerners living in the northern part of Nigeria to move away.”
Qaqa also criticised President Goodluck Jonathan over his visit to the Catholic Church where the bloodiest Christmas day attack took place. “The President had never visited any of the theatres were Muslims were massacred,” he said, naming areas where scores of Muslims were killed in post-election riots in April.
It would be recalled that President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency on Saturday in parts of four states hard hit by violence blamed on Boko Haram.

More than 20 church goers lost their lives this morning as two bombs exploded during Christmas church service at St Theresa Catholic church in Madalla, Suleja, Niger state.
A car rigged with bomb was parked at the premises of the church, which exploded around 8: 30 AM as church members left the church premises after the Christmas day mass. The second blast occurred when a suicide bomber drove a BMW car into the church premises. Apart from those killed in the attack, several others have been taken to the hospital for life threatening injuries. Many cars were also destroyed in the attack.

Following the bomb blast in a Kaduna spare parts market two days ago, that has so far killed 14 people, members of the Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), led by its leader, Dr Fredrick Fasheun, yesterday Thursday Dec 8th marched through major streets of Lagos, protesting against the general insecurity in the country, and especially the terrorist activities of Boko Haram, warning to take decisive action against the terrorist group if they dare make an incursion into the South West...and if the Federal Govt does not do something about them soon.

They are going to other African countries but have vehemently refused to come here, especially after they were warned by their country to stay away from Nigeria...in the meantime.
A few major shows in Nigeria have had to be cancelled because of this. R.Kelly, Ludacris, Keri Hilson were invited to perform at three different shows this December and they all turned it down. It's not like it's major issue but it's just not a good image for us...

President Goodluck Jonathan, yesterday, described the terrorist attacks by the Boko Haram Islamic sect as “a temporary setback” which will soon be a thing of the past. This came on the heels of the nation’s quest for direct foreign investment which is the high point of the 2011 Economic summit.
Speaking at the on-going 17th Nigeria Economic Summit, NES 17, in Abuja, President Jonathan said that his administration was acquiring and deploying all necessgoary security infrastructure to defeat the sect in order to make the nation an investors’ haven in her quest to be a key global economic power.
His words: “We are working very hard to provide a conducive atmosphere for investors. Although we currently have the Boko Haram problem, just like terrorist activities in other parts of the globe, but I can assure Nigerians and the global community that we will soon overcome. All those involved in 2010 Independence Day attacks have been arrested. We admit that our primary responsibility is to provide security and we are working on it. Book Haram is a temporary setback.
