YOUTUBE LAUNCHES IN NIGERIA

Video-sharing website YouTube officially launched its services in Nigeria on Wednesday, December 7, 2011.

The company’s reps, officials from Google Nigeria and IT buffs gathered at the Civic Centre, Victoria Island, Lagos to celebrate the event.

The YouTube interface suggests which local version should be chosen on the basis of the IP address of the user which is in this case, Nigeria. Nigerian content will now be brought to the forefront for users in country, suggesting the likely videos/clips.

This also suggests that some video content might be restricted from showing in the country if copyright restrictions are filed.

A unique URL (uniform resource locator) has also been issued (www.youtube.com.ng).

So far YouTube has launched the localized versions of its website’s interface in 36 countries. The company recently launched operations in Belgium (November 17) and Colombia (November 30).

YouTube was created in February 2005 by PayPal employees; Chad Hurley, Steve Chen, and Jawed Karim. The company was later bought by Google Inc. for $1.65 billion, and now operates as a subsidiary of Google

Ghanaian Gospel Singer Turned Pastor Impregnates 3 Church Members

A London based pastor has found himself treading in deep waters with her majesty’s law after getting 3 members of his church pregnant at the same time.

Pastor Kwaku Antwi-kusi Junior 31, who has already fathered 2 children with a different church member is thought to have had sexual relations with almost every female members of his church and now he is reaping what he sowed.

Pastor Kwaku Antwi-kusi Junior released an album “Bless The Lord” in 2009 and decided that this was a “call from god” to do his work, he established a church and called it Family Praise Ministries. He might have taken the term “family” too literally. Yes a church is a place for all of God’s children and we are one big family but his actions are far from appropriate.

More news reaching us makes this an even more sticky situation. It turns out Pastor Kwaku is married to another church member. This was apparently kept secret from the other members of the congregation. We can only speculate what his intentions were.

The church has since been closed down. Pastor Kwaku has since absconded leaving all these unanswered questions and pregnant women behind.

This calls to question the integrity of many pastors and so called men of God. Just recently we heard the comment Duncan Williams made about his wealth. If this is the lives they live how do they lead the congregation.

'I'M THE FUTURE OF NOLLYWOOD' - ANITA JOSEPH

Anita Joseph, one of Nigeria’s newest stars on television says she is one of the talents that will bring glory to the Nigerian movie industry.
She said she is working harder than she has ever done to bring this to pass. The pretty actress said in the last one month she has moved in and out of five movie locations, though all the five movies are still at production stage.

In one of the movies, Anita is playing a rebellious lesbian in a flick by a new director, Humprey Agun, with Lagos as the main location. Done with that, the actress flew into Port Harcourt to play the role of a drug baron in another movie. Anita, back in Lagos, hit another movie location to work the pole as a stripper in a Tony Mex movie alongside Liberian hunk Frank Atus. From the FESTAC town set as a shot stripper, Anita moved to Warri, Delta State to co-star with Alex Osifo and Yemi Blaq in a Christian flick, before returning to the Garden city again for Total Bliss and later to Abuja for another production, Queen of the Pack. In spite of her very tight schedule, the actress cum singer promised to deliver the best in all her roles.

“The most interesting thing in acting is that you have the chance of being so many things and so many people at different points. You can be an 18th century diva today, and the next day, a drug baron. While you know nothing about all these characters, in order to achieve perfection, you must trust in God and hard work,” she explained.

She adds: “It was fun playing a druglord. But my biggest joy came from the fact that I had the chance to act as agent of change that will let young ones know the danger of hard drugs.”

In between this busy schedule, Anita still sneaks in and out of the studio for her music. She is discussing with two of Nigeria’s talented producers, TY Mix and Dr Frabz,

ANDROID - 10 BILLION AND COUNTING

Regardless of what the number may account, it’s still quite impressive as all those zeroes lined up after that lonely one sure means someone is cashing in big. The smartphone war has been raging on for years now with Apple and Google’s Android angling for the top spot as the most sold and used smartphone out there. And while Apple may have its devotees, willing to line up outside of Apple stores for days just to get their hands on the new iPhone, it’s Android users who are actually the ones that count. Thanks to Android, Samsung smartphones overtook Apple’s shipping a record 27.8 million units in the last quarter, accounting for 23.8 per cent of the global smartphone market.

And as if that wasn’t impressive, Android has now just recorded a whopping 10 billion app downloads. Google announced this milestone via its blog, adding that its apps, via the Android Market, were being downloaded at a rate of a billion a month. The search giant even announced that to celebrate this record making number, it would give discounts on its most downloaded apps starting with Asphalt 6 HD, Minecraft, Endomondo Sports Tracker Pro and Swiftkey X for the next 10 days.

Figures recently released by Google showed that app downloads had considerably increased in a short span of time. Google’s first billion came after a lengthy 22 months but after that the increase was quite brisk, jumping 8 billion in around a year and a half, with 1 billion apps sold between November and December of this year.

In comparison, Apple reached the 1 billion count in nine months and so far holds onto 15 billion downloads in total, however experts feel they may not hold this position for long.

Analyst Geoff Blaber from CCS Insight explained, “Apple announced the 15 billion download mark in July so it's clear that Android's momentum in device activations is translating to application downloads and usage. We'd expect Android to overtake Apple in application downloads in the first half of 2012.”

But while Android might be galloping ahead, some industry analysts have said that while Google can celebrate, it may be a bit of a hollow victory. Their caveat seems to appear in the form of the actual quality of the Android’s apps, saying that many of them have technical glitches that need to be addressed. Carolina Milanesi from the analyst firm, Gartner, offered,

“The number game matters to industry watchers and helps advertising but it is not changing the bottom line," adding, "Quality of the apps and the store in general and duration in particular should be the focus for Google. This is where I still see a difference between the Apple App Store and Android Market.”

NOLLYWOOD ACTRESS MOYO LAWAL IN AUTO CRASH

Fast rising actress, Moyo Lawal on Sunday,December 4,2011 survived an auto crash when her Toyota Camry slipped into a ditch along Lagos/Ibadan Expressway while on her way from Asaba, Delta State.

The frightening incident we learnt,happened at about 10.30 a.m adjacent MKO Gardens, Ikeja,Lagos.

According to an industry source, the car skidded into a ditch but they were rescued by other motorists and good Samaritans coming behind.

Those who visited the scene of the accident told me that no one would believe Moyo and the guy who drove the car would be alive.

But I learnt they came out unhurt, the source squealed.
