DRIVER JAILED 14 YEARS FOR IMPREGNATING DAUGHTER

The Family Court in Ikorodu, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria has sentenced a driver, Philip Michael to 14 years imprisonment for having unlawful carnal knowledge of his daughter which resulted in pregnancy.

The victim, Happiness Michael, 12 later gave birth to a baby boy on 22 November, 2010. The Family Social Services Unit of the Lagos State Ministry of Youth and Social Development got wind of the abuse and arrested the randy driver.

Delivering judgment in the case yesterday, Chief Magistrate Femi Segun found the accused guilty of having unlawful carnal knowledge of her daughter and sentenced him to 14 years imprisonment with hard labour.

She said the sentence is justified in view of the nature of the offence and the impunity with which the offence was committed. Justice Segun advised the convict to amend his ways after serving his jail term, adding that the one and a half years the convict had spent in custody will be deducted from the jail term.

Last year, the Family Social Services, Office of Youth and Social Development investigated the allegation that a 12-year old girl was abused by his father which resulted in pregnancy. The matter was reported to the government by the victim’s teacher.

During interrogation, Miss Happiness revealed that she was forcefully taken away from her biological mother by her father when her stepmother died. She said her father had sex with her severally and was detected to be pregnant by a teacher in her school.

Immediately, the victim was withdrawn from his father and placed under care and protection of the Special Correctional Centre for Girls at Idi Araba, Mushin, Lagos while the baby boy delivered by Happiness was placed under the care of the Lagos State government.

Phillip Michael was arrested and detained at the Kirikiri Prisons, Apapa while the matter was charged before the Family Court, Ikorodu by the Commissioner of Police, represented by the prosecutor, Inspector Fola Takumbe.

GOLDIE PLANS 'DONT TOUCH MY BODY' CAMPAIGN

Plans are in top gear to begin a campaign that would preach zero tolerance against all forms of violence against the female gender.

The campaign, which is tagged ‘Don’t Touch My Body’ is the brain child of eclectic pop singer, Suzan Harvey, who is well known as Goldie. While she is said to be targeting young ladies in secondary school and tertiary institutions, sources informed NFC that the singer is leaving no stone unturned in ensuring that the campaign gets to young females in all spheres of life.

Currently, she has concluded talks with the management of some schools where the campaign would and would commence the campaign in conjunction with a non governmental organization, Project Alert.

According to Goldie, the reason for the campaign is not unconnected with her decision to always and consistently speaking against violence against female gender as well as advocating for the empowerment of the female folks.

'WE'RE SURPRISED, SHOCKED AND EMBARRASSED BY GTBANK'S ACTION' - WIZKID'S MANAGEMENT

The management of popular record label Empire Mates Entertainment (EME) have finally made an official response to the on-going controversy surrounding whether or not their act, pop singer Wizkid  was billed to perform at the GTCrea8 eSavers Campus Concert  which took place at the University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (UNAAB) and was organized by GTBank.

EME in a press statement released today Friday, November 25, 2011 said that they are ‘surprised, shocked and embarrassed by the unlawful exploitation of the name, image, goodwill and personae of the artist Wizkid without their permission’.

Nigerian Entertainment Today had reported that GTBank, organizers of the campus show had earlier announced on Monday November 19, via Twitter, that the pop act would be performing at the convocation grounds of the school’s campus on November 23. The show as announced was to take place from 3PM to 6PM. Wizkid never turned up.

‘The flagrant misrepresentation and unlawful exploitation of Wizkid’s name and image by Guaranty Trust Bank has caused significant distress to Wizkid and EME as the artist has been accused by various fans, of not honouring a show for which he was purportedly paid millions of naira’, Wizkid’s management, who claim he was never contacted for the event, say.

Earlier today, our reporter paid a visit to the corporate Headquarters of GTBank and was met by an official who says the bank is yet to release an official press statement but will do so in matter of days.

A manager who pleaded for anonymity told us the bank’s position will be made public ‘soon’. Meanwhile, we’re told EME may be pressing charges, depending on the outcome of talks with the bank.

The statement, signed by Wizkid’s manager Osagie Osarenkhoe mentions that the label has contacted their lawyers L & A- Legal Consultants who are in talks already with the GTBank…

RARE HIV FOUND IN FRANCE
