Protest To Ban Kardashian Show Gathers Momentum

The always-in-the-news-attention-grabbing Kardashians are inevitably in the news again, but this time, instead of some gig about a hair removal endorsement deal, or a $20M wedding, honeymoon vacation in a $3,300-a-night hotel and equally bolt-like divorce, they are at the receiving end of a protest by an online group who want their presence, wait for it, banned from TV!

Apparently the group, in its social petition website, GoPetition.com and through its author Cyndy Syder, feels that the E! Channel hosted show, ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ is ‘mostly staged and place an emphasis on vanity, greed, promiscuity, vulgarity and over-the-top conspicuous consumption’!

Already the ‘No More Kardashian’ protest is garnering support, as it has collected almost 150,000 signatures so far, which obviously shows that a lot of women, sorry, people feel strongly about the shows antics at amassing popularity. The full petition, which was first posted on the website on Wednesday, November 2, and which will be sent to the management of the entertainment channel E! reads;

‘Dear E! Online,

We are respectfully requesting that your network find other shows to air.

‘Keeping up with the Kardashians’ is just not viewing that we the public, would like to see from your network. Enough is enough. I am asking people to sign a petition that will be forwarded to E! Online to request that the show, ‘Keeping up with the Kardashians,’ ends.”

“We feel that these shows are mostly staged and place an emphasis on vanity, greed, promiscuity, vulgarity and over-the-top conspicuous consumption,” the statement reads, referring to the suite of Kardashian shows.

“While some may have begun watching the spectacle as mindless entertainment or as a sort of ‘reality satire,’ it is a sad truth that many young people are looking up to this family and are modelling their appearance and behaviour after them.”

“There is no particular religious or political platform behind our disgust; we are just finally fed up.‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ is an American reality television series that airs on E!. The series premiered in October 2007. It focuses on the personal and professional lives of the members of the Kardashian and Jenner family.

Lady Gaga's 'Little Monsters' Bully Adele On Twitter

Lady Gaga, photographed leaving the X-Factor studios in London on November 13th, might have to talk to her fans about bullying again. Gaga’s little monsters who we thought followed Gaga’s guidance of peace, love and equality for all have been making tasteless jokes about Adele’s weight after comments were made about which female was the best selling artist in the world. The Daily Mail reports that the little monsters are afraid Gaga will lose to Adele at the Grammy’s and have taken to Twitter and YouTube to poke fun of Adele because of the title, yes it does sound that immature.

The little monsters have been tweeting cruel remarks like, “Confirmed: Gaga will not be wearing her meat dress because she is afraid Adele will eat it.” One Gaga fan made a video about Adele’s weight by changing the lyrics of a Gaga song, “I’m bootyful in my own way because Arby’s makes nooo mistakes, I’ve got the right order, baby, I was born this weight.” That wasn’t even a good mocking lyric. Instead of canceling her tour because of surgery, some Gaga fans have made the comment that the real reason why Adele had to cancel her tour was because she couldn’t sell enough tickets.

It isn’t every fan that is going around making cruel remarks, an executive at Gaga’s record label said, “Lady Gaga does not approve of bullying anyone for their physical appearance, it goes against everything she stands for. A tiny handful of fans may be letting her down.” There have been plenty of past fan feuds with female musicians like Lady Gaga and Katy Perry, Demi and Selena and Britney and Christina, but it gets kind of personal to fans when people start commenting on body image instead of focusing on the talent.

Olajide Fashikun, Nigeria journalist, arrested over stories alleging corruption in NFF

A journalist in Nigeria was arrested and faces a libel lawsuit over a series of stories alleging corruption in the Nigerian Football Federation. Olajide Fashikun, editor of the National Accord newspaper, was arrested last Wednesday. He faces a lawsuit over a series of articles he wrote in which he claimed that a letter from FIFA to the country's soccer organizing body carried a forged signature.

Police arrested Fashikun, ransacked the officers of the National Accord newspaper -- where he worked -- and seized his laptop and hard drive, the International Press Institute said.

He was later released.

The subject of Fashikun's articles is a letter purportedly from Sepp Blatter, the president of FIFA, which congratulates Aminu Maigari on his election as head of the Nigerian Football Federation. Maigari's election in August 2010 was controversial after his main opponent withdrew from the race. Now, the football federation has sued Fashikun, saying that his articles have damaged the integrity of committee.

Last year, FIFA was close to suspending Nigeria for government interference. After the national team performed poorly in the 2010 World Cup, Nigeria said it would ban the team from international competition for two years. Under threat of FIFA suspension, the football federation reversed its decision. The International Press Institute, which promotes freedom of the press, said other newspapers in Nigeria have been raided in the past.

Last month, police raided The Nation newspaper and arrested six journalists after they published a front-page letter purportedly from the nation's former president instructing the current to fire government officials. "This recent tendency to arrest journalists and to seize their computers and hard drives is worrying," the institute's Executive Director Bethel McKenzie said. "More must be done to guarantee freedom of the media in Nigeria."
