Participants of this year’s edition of the hugely popular Calabar Carnival are in for a big treat as organizers have announced that US rapper Rick Ross, and Jamaican-American singer, Sean Kingston will headline the musical performances for this year’s event.
Both acts will thrill audiences at this year’s ‘Africa’s Biggest Street Party’, with Sean Kingston’s performance scheduled for Friday, December 16, 2011 at the UJ Esuene Sports Stadium while Maybach Music Group boss, Rick Ross will entertain rap fans on the Wednesday, December 28. Nigerian artistes billed to perform alongside the US acts include pop duo Psquare, R&B singer Banky W, pop sensation Wizkid, veteran producer/singer OJB Jezreel, and Comedian Julius Agwu.
Also making an appearance at the carnival would be US Jazz, R&B Soul and funk group Kool and the Gang. The group which was very popular in the ‘70s and’80s will perform past hits such as ‘Get down on it’, and ‘Joanna’.
Other artistes billed to perform at the event are; Nigerian Reggae act, King Wadada, Nyore, General Brown Bread, Kandy Sea, Chantaman, Prince and Princess, Betsy Akan and Chris X.
The annual event, which runs through the month of December, is a regular hot spot for tourists all over the world, and has featured performances by big names in the international music scene, including Lucky Dube, Akon, Fat Joe, and Young Jeezy among many others.
The carnival which also features boat regattas, fashion shows, traditional dances and other fun activities was initiated by former governor of Cross Rivers State, Donald Duke in 2004.
