Staff of City FM, a radio station situated in the heart of Lagos, Nigeria, on Monday December 6, 2011, abandoned their duty posts in protest over an alleged lack of payment of staff entitlements.
Some of the staff, who were seen gathered outside of their offices, also decried the mass sack of staff by management without payment of accumulated benefits.
Some of the affected staff, who spoke to Nigerian Entertainment Today, lamented the situation where employees who were allegedly being owed salaries up to six months ‘had their appointments unceremoniously terminated’.
Stanley Akpotah, the former Head of Marketing with the radio station was reported to have stated that the directors of the company displayed lack of commitment towards welfare of staff of the company.
He decried the situation where after working diligently for the company as a foundation staff for about a year and six months, management was ‘heartless’ to terminate his appointment, via a courier sent to his home.
We’re told some of the staff also affected by the situation include Charles Ohaukwu; News, Solomon Ajizogu; Sports department, Ohi Odiai; News, Hafeez Balogun; Marketing, Maureen Obi; Marketing.
Efforts to get management’s side of the story proved abortive as the chairman of the company, Kevin Ejiofor, bluntly refused to speak to this reporter when approached for comments.
Also the GM could not be reached for comments as calls made to his phone were not answered.
Nigerian Entertainment Today is closely monitoring the situation and will keep you updated on developments as they occur.
City FM, which began operations in June 2010, is owned by Orpheus Communications.
