It is now an American baby which is vying for recognition – the Big Bouncing Baby born in Iowa weighed 13 lbs and 5 oz. Coming close on the heels of a Chinese baby weighing nearly 15 lbs, it appears the year of 2012 could be branded as the Year of Big Babies.
Sanders, the Iowa baby, falls short of the largest American baby ever: that baby born in 1980 in Johnson County weighed 14 lbs 13 oz.
The natural birth of Sanders took place in the Mercy Medical Center, Iowa – its mother is 24-year old Kendall Stewardson. It seems this trend runs in the family - both Kendall and her husband were more than 10 lb when born as was their previous child. He weighed a little over 12 lb.
