QUEEN LATIFAH, JILL SCOTT TO STAR IN "STEEL MAGNOLIAS" REMAKE

Queen Latifah and Jill Scott are among the cast in the Lifetime reboot.

Lifetime has assembled a cast for its remake of Steel Magnolias, a film which will be an "updated, contemporary TV adaptation of the play and 1989 film."

Among the members of the all-black cast are Queen Latifah and Jill Scott, along with Alfre Woodward, Phylicia Rashad, Adepero Oduye, and Condola Rashad.

According to deadline.com, Latifah will also executive produce the movie.

"Steel Magnolias chronicles the lives and friendship of six women in Louisiana: M’Lynn (Queen Latifah), Ouiser (Woodard), Clairee (Phylicia Rashad), Truvy (Scott), Annelle (Oduye) and Shelby (Condola Rashad)," states the report. "Supporting each other through their triumphs and tragedies, they congregate at Truvy’s beauty shop to ponder the mysteries of life and death, husbands and children — and hair and nails — all the important topics that bring women together."

Steel Magnolias pairs Latifah with fellow executive producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron, with whom she collaborated on the film adaptations of Chicago and Hairspray.

Guests at the service included Q-Tip, Queen Latifah, Don King and more. Following Heavy D’s sudden death last week, a funeral service was held in Mount Vernon, New York to honor the fallen rapper. During the ceremony, Rev. Al Sharpton read a letter from President Obama who expressed his condolences for his family’s loss. “We extend our heartfelt condolences at this difficult time.

He will be remembered for his infectious optimism and many contributions to American music. Please know that you and your family will be in our thoughts and prayers,” read the note. Additional guests at the ceremony included Usher, Don King, Q-Tip, John Legend, Rosie Perez and

Sean “Diddy” Combs. The Bad Boy mogul was quoted as stating that Heavy D was there for him “"at my darkest hour" and "was the first person to believe in me." Singer Johnny Gill performed the gospel hit “Never Would Have Made It,” while Hev’s nieces tearfully sang “His Eye is On the Sparrow.”

Queen Latifah To Launch Syndicated Talk Show In Fall 2013

The rapper/actress will make a foray into daytime television. Queen Latifah has announced that she will launch her first syndicated daytime talk show series in fall 2013.

According to NYTimes, the New Jersey native will produce the show through her Flavor Unit Entertainment in partnership with Sony Pictures Television and Will Smith and James Lassiter’s Overbrook Entertainment.

In addition to having her own talk show, Latifah is producing the drama Percentage starring Cam’ron and will next star in Ice Age 4: Continental Drift.
