SASH BARON COHEN ISSUES STATEMENT ON OSCAR BAN
With the Academy having issued a warning to Paramount Studios in regards to their unwillingness to allow Sacha Baron Cohen to turn the Oscars red carpet into a publicity stunt for his upcoming movie "The Dictator," the comedic actor has just issued a statement on the matter.
Milking the headline-making news for all it's worth, the 40-year-old English comedic actor's web posting told that his character, Admiral General Aladeen, will be offering a complete press statement on the controversy on Friday (February 24).
Cohen's message placed on "The Dictator" website read: "Admiral General Aladeen will deliver a formal response tomorrow morning to being banned from the Oscars by the Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Zionists."
While it was initially reported that Cohen was banned from attending the red carpet event this Sunday, the Academy has since noted that the "Hugo" star is more than welcome as long as he behaves himself.
“The Academy would love to have Sacha at the show," a spokesman told The Hollywood Reporter. "We’ve let him know how we feel about using the red carpet for a movie stunt and we’re waiting to hear from him.”
SACHA BARON COHEN: BANNED FROM THE OSCARS?
He'll wear just about anything to get a rise out of his audience, but has Sacha Baron Cohen's latest controversial costume choice gone too far?
The "Borat" star is set to be among the star-studded crowd at the Oscars this Sunday (February 26), but according to Deadline Hollywood, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has pulled Cohen’s tickets due to his wardrobe.
On Wednesday night (February 22), reports surfaced that Cohen planned to show up to the red carpet dressed in full character from his upcoming envelope-pushing comedy, "The Dictator."
A rep from the film's production company, Paramount, spoke out about the matter, telling Deadline, “Unless they’re assured that nothing entertaining is going to happen on the red carpet, the Academy is not admitting Sacha Baron Cohen to the show.”
However, it's still uncertain whether the actor has actually been forbidden from attending, as an Oscar spokesperson has since told The Hollywood Reporter, “We haven’t banned him, we’re just waiting to hear what he’s going to do.”
Sacha is part of the Paramount film "Hugo," which is up for eleven Oscars including best picture.
