Mos Def To Retire His Name At The End Of 2011, Renaming Himself Yasiin

Mos has revealed that he wants to dead his rap moniker in a few months. Mos Def has announced that at the end of 2011, he will no longer go by "Mos Def" and will instead release music under the name "Yasiin." Speaking with MTV2's Sucker Free, the Black Star member explained that he appreciates his current rap name, but that it's time to move on.

"I’m retiring the Mos Def name after 2011. I’m actually doing it. Yasiin. That’s it," he revealed. "Mos Def is a name that I built and cultivated over the years, it’s a name that the streets taught me, a figure of speech that was given to me by the culture and by my environment, and I feel I’ve done quite a bit with that name and it’s time to expand and move on. Also, I didn’t want to have to deal with having any moniker or separation between the self that I see and know myself as."

Jesse Jagz Pops Up On US Billboard Charts

Nigerian pop singer/producer Jesse Jagz has been featured on the US Billboard Charts in the ‘Next Big Sound 25’ category. The younger brother to rapper M.I occupies the ninth position on the chart.
According to Billboard.com, ‘Next Big Sound 25’ highlights the ‘fastest accelerating artists during the past week, across all major social music sites, statistically predicted to achieve future success, as measured by next big sound’. Jesse Jagz recently released his ‘Las Gidi Grinding’ single off his forthcoming album which is still untitled.

Other Nigerian artistes that have recently been listed on the ‘Next Big Sound’ include D’banj and Darey.
‘It’s more or less an incentive to work harder. It shows that people out there appreciate his music. We try as much as possible to spread our music to strategic places‘; a spokesperson for Jagz tells Nigerian Entertainment Today (NET).

Jesse Jagz is signed to Chocolate City Records and has released one album under the CC imprint. He is also well known for producing leading artistes such as Ice Prince, Timi Dakolo, Banky W, Modenine, Silva Saddih and Sasha.

NBC: We have no reason to ban D’banj’s Oliver

Don Jazzy via Twitter reacted to the banning of the new song by D’banj, Oliver which was announced by Rapper Ruggedman. However, spokesperson to the National Broadcasting Commission says: “We have no reason to ban any song that has no tendency to cause turmoil, crisis or affects the integrity of persons, individuals, groups or society at large”

“There are many other rules and regulations which govern airplays on Nigerian broadcasting media and as far as I am concerned the song has not breached any and such reports indicating it was banned are untrue”

Don Jazzy’s Youtube competition tagged ‘Oliver Twist Video Competition’ is still a sensation and this might just be good news to keep the entries coming.

The song continued to receive airplays from radio stations radio stations in Lagos such as EKo FM, Top Radio and Unilag FG.

It seems afterall, Oliver was not banned but NBC’s Head of Public Relations Unit Awwalu Salihu is yet to say otherwise.
