TONTO DIKEH's POLICE ARREST THREAT ** I NEVER ABANDONED A MOVIE SET FOR ANOTHER - TONTO DIKEH

A national newspaper reported over the weekend that a movie producer threatened to arrest Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh with police if she doesn't show up for an abandoned movieproduction in Asaba, Delta State.

The news story had it that Tonto left the movie production on the excuse of travelling to Lagos last week Monday but was on another movie shoot.

She was reported to have still not returned to the abandoned movie set as at last weekend. Speaking to Nigeriafilms.com through her publicist, Tonto claimed that she never dumped the movie production in Asaba for another movie production.

She claimed that she actually travelled to Lagos on Tuesday for a TV shoot for Tee A's 'Time Out With Tee A', which is a comedy TV show. She also claimed that when news broke about her abandoning a movie set, she offered to make a refund of all the money collected from the movie producer because of the embarrassment caused her but the producer begged her not to take that step.

According to what we gathered, other movie stars the likes of Queen Nwokoye, Frank Arturs amongst others are also taking part in the movie shoot in Asaba.

You will recall that last year, a movie producer, AMACO Investment had same problem with actress, Uche Ugbodo. The latter was reported to actors' guild leadership and was almost faced with a two-year ban from acting.

SEXY: NOLLYWOOD ACTRESS MONALISA CHINDA SHOWS THIGH (PHOTO)

The daring game just began. There was a time when names like Mercy Johnson, Tonto Dikeh, and Empress Njamah are synonymous with daring and boundary breaking.

Well, not anymore. It seems like it’s the in thing in Nollywood as every sexy actress — and even actors — waste no time in showcasing their sexiness.

Here is hot Monalisa Chinda teasing us with a bit of boob and thigh show.

TONTO DIKE 'ABANDONS' MOVIE SET, FACES LAWSUIT

Controversial actress, Tonto Dike, has reportedly come under fire from a producer for allegedly abandoning the set of a movie, prompting threats of court action against her.

The actress allegedly left the set of the movie, being shot in Asaba, Delta State on Monday, April 16, 2012, for Lagos, where she was said to have been involved in another movie.

According to a source representing the producer of the movie, which is being directed by Nonso Okonkwo, ‘Her (Tonto’s) absence has delayed the completion of our production which we started days ago. We are supposed to be rounding off this weekend but we can’t. Tonto cannot disappear with all the money we have paid her.’

She is being threatened with a lawsuit by the producers if she fails to return to location as soon as possible. The actress at the time of this report, could not be reached to either verify or refute the claim.

However, a spokesman for the actress when contacted by NET, denied any wrongdoing on her part, stating that there was no threat of a lawsuit whatsoever by the producers.

‘She is very good friends with the producer and I’m not sure where these stories about a lawsuit came from. She only travelled over the weekend to attend the AMAA ceremony, so the issue of her abandoning one set for another does not even arise, and is false‘, the rep stated.

The movie, titled ‘Blood Rage‘ is expected to star Dike, alongside Frank Atus, Queen Nwokoye, and others.

DANIEL ADEMINOKAN SPEAKS ON MARRIAGE BREAK-UP TALE WITH WIFE, DORIS SIMEON

Some weeks ago, Nigeriafilms.com brought you a reports on a break-up rumour between Nollywood actress, Doris Simeon and her husband, Daniel Ademinokan.

In the break-up tale, controversial actress, Tonto Dikeh was allegedly fingered to be the major cause of the strain in relationship between Doris and Daniel. Tonto has since dissociated herself from the rumour.

Coming from the heat the rumour has generated since the story broke, Daniel Da Bishop, as Daniel is also called, has finally opened up on his alleged marriage problem with Doris.

In an un-edited statement retrieved by Nigeriafilms.com, Daniel stated, "I want to use this medium to express my gratitude to people who have been very supportive in the course of my career.

Also, a big thank you to people who have encouraged me through thick and thin and most especially the loss of my dad.

Without you guys who go out there to see the films I make, there would be no point even making the films in the first place. God bless you.

I know that a lot has been going on in the media as regards my private life and I have seen countless accounts of events that I know absolutely nothing about. (Including prophecies that I now work with the minister of Culture and Tourism).

I want to make it clear that I have not granted any interview or discussed anything with anyone as regards issues happening to me privately. I know the challenges that come with my profession, fully understanding the fact that whatever we do is constantly under the scrutiny of the public.

However, I am also human and I am entitled to my privacy. I made it clear that people hacked into my emails, Facebook and twitter accounts to communicate with certain individuals. I have set the record straight with the parties involved.

I understand the level of love and support I have received from numerous fans and friends. At this time I just want to focus on the things that are most important to me.

Feel free to communicate with me as regards work and friendship but if it goes beyond that into the issues that i consider are private...I will not entertain it.

We know how the press works and most of them have made us understand and see their highest levels of incompetency by writing stories that link me with a colleague that I respect but do not even talk with.

Do we continue to believe the words of people who have constantly lied to us just to sell papers and make their blogs popular or do we just go about our businesses and let God sort his children out?

Once again thank you all for respecting my privacy. The best you can do is to remember me in your prayers. God bless you all and may God's Favour never cease from your household.

TONTO DIKEH SETTLES RIFT WITH SUSAN PETERS

It is generally believe that few years back, top actresses Tonto Dikeh and Susan Peters were enjoying good relationship as colleagues in the movie industry, but suddenly Super Eagle’s player,Kalu Uche the current husband of ex-beauty queen

Stephanie Oforka appeared from nowhere and tore them apart. According to the information gathered then, the handsome and rich Super Eagle striker was said to have been in secret sizzling romance with pretty and talented actress

Tonto Dikeh. It was alleged that the relationship between Mr. Uche and Ms. Dikeh was not hidden to her colleagues including Ms. Peters who later allegedly went and hooked up with the same guy. The affair was said to have gone unnoticed for a while till it was uncovered. Gist merchants revealed that footballer Kalu Uche was the-bone behind the acquisition of N15million Range Rover SUV by sexy actress Peters two years back.

The delivery of the posh car was said to be the factor that let the cat out of the bag and revealed that Ms. Peters had more than friendly relationship with Mr. Uche. However, going by the information reaching our desk, these gifted actresses seem to have moved a step further and abandoned their differences to secure a new life.

Both actresses are now sharing one goal in common,as they have the interest of less privilege children at heart and are struggling to make their worlds better. The news of their settlement filtered the air last month when ebony beautiful actress Peters staged a concert, which was geared towards improving the welfare of less privilege children in various motherless babies homes in Nigeria.

As Ms. Peters close friends and colleagues graced the occasion to support her, Ms. Dikeh to the utmost surprise of people present appeared at the concert to support her friend. Sources informed that Ms. Dikeh apart from her presence, contributed immensely, financially and otherwise to ensure that Ms. Peters show will be successful.

2011 ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY NEWSMAKERS

In 2011, two kinds of people ruled the entertainment industry like colossus. Some were busy making news without the attendant noise, while others were busy making noise without the substance of news.
There were those who graced the red carpet for the fun of it, while others were the ‘ish’ to complete the word ‘distinguish’ on the red carpet.

Their presence lit up the atmosphere and they were topics of discussion long after events were over. Some of the newsmakers chose to be silent without the drama and undue attention that characterize every move of noisemakers.

Identifying the noisemakers isn’t hard. They grace every available red carpet, dress to kill, smile to the paparazzi, walk around, and then leave. They are the first to announce every of their moves on twitter, change Blackberry pictures and issue press releases for all kinds of unworthy news. We won’t waste precious newspaper space mentioning their names; we shall, however, concentrate on those who made the news without the news making them.

Omotola Jalade-Ekeinde
2011 couldn’t have been better for the superstar actress; it was during the course of the year that she attended the Grammy and MoBo awards, and consolidated her place as a premium brand in Nollywood by grabbing only the big budget movies in and outside Nigeria. She became the highest paid Nollywood actress by collecting over N5 million fee for a movie shot in Nigeria. She played alongside Hollywood’s Kimberley Elis, the highly publicized Layla Djanzi’s movie Ties that bound, shot in Ghana. The same year, she starred in Amina alongside high profile British actor in the UK.

Shuga Band
In the business of live performances, Shuga Band topped the chart in 2010. It was expected that the Akin Tofowomo-led band would slow down in 2011, but alas! The critics were wrong. From East, West, North and South, even as far as Sri Lanka, Dubai, and France, Shuga Band grabbed all major events, leaving the rest for other bands. The band headlined Doyin Abiola’s daughter’s wedding in Dubai and shook Sri Lanka with talk-of-the-town performance. Ask any major event person, if you are not talking six digit figures, Shuga Band might be out of your reach.

Ini Edo
A Nollywood observer once said that apart from Genevieve Nnaji, Ini Edo is the actress with the highest number of corporate endorsements - Globacom, Chi, Noble Hair - are some of the corporate bodies that sought brand affiliations with the Uyo-born actress. Aside grabbing the mouth-watering Noble Hair deal in the course of the year, Ini Edo produced two major movies, I Will Take My Chances and Weekend Getaway. She also became the United Nations Youth Envoy on Environment. A United Nations appointment necessitated her visit to dustbin estate, where the despicable sight led her to make the commitment of building a school for the ghetto.

Mahmood Alli-Balogun
He is the type you may want to call “old school’’, especially for age and longevity in the industry. But the grey-beard filmmaker rebranded to teach the “new school’’ some filmmaking techniques. His movie, Tango With Me, went on to become the highest grossing local movie at the cinemas with over N32 million. The movie starred Genevieve and Joseph Benjamin. It is a 2011 record that only Ije beat in 2010.

Funke Akindele
Her story is as inspirational as inspiration could get. With a humble beginning and a teenage role in the popular sitcom, I Need To Know, Funke Akindele, a Lagos indigene, rose to become a force in the English and Yoruba movie genres, where she rose from being an outsider to one of the major players in the industry. Her movie, The Return of Jenifa, a sequel to the popular movie, Jenifa, went on to become the fastest box office movie at the cinemas, grossing over N29 million in just three cinemas. In the course of the outgoing year, she became a bona fide brand and Globacom renewed her appointment as Ambassador, while she starred in So Klin promo advert and reportedly pocketed several millions of naira for her efforts. She was also compere at several events, among them the Ice Prince album launch, and several corporate events.

Rita Dominic
Apart from Omotola, there is perhaps no busier actress on big budget movies than Rita Dominic. She represented Nollywood well in Kenya, where she starred in a big budget movie, Shattered. She was also the lead act in Izu Ojukwu’s movie and ended the year being the executive producer of her movie, The Meeting, alongside her longtime producer, Mildred Okwo. For Rita, it wasn’t all about movies alone, as telecoms giant, Globacom, re-appointed her Ambassador.

KOGA Entertainment
Not many gave the Chris Jeyibo-led entertainment firm a chance at the beginning of the year when Koga opened its door for business. But 12 months down the line Koga is the new song on everybody’s lips in both the music and movie industry. During the course of the year Koga played host to many entertainers, who used one of its four visual studios for music videos or movies. Others were there to record songs, mix and mastered different songs. The biggest news the entertainment company made was acquiring the latest and most expensive camera in the world, Alexa. The camera and its accessories are said to have cost over N40 million. The production arm of Koga also embarked on production of television soap, Eve, and a yet to be released movie, Heroes and Zeros, directed by Niji Akanji. The icing on the cake was Koga’s reality show, Dance234 and talk-of-the-town concert, Top10 MICS. The concert, according to industry buffs, is the best seen in Nigeria so far.

Tonto Dike
For Tonto Dike, there is no in-between, it is either you love her with untold passion, or hate with equal passion. Tonto is a major newsmaker of 2011. If she’s not making news with her out-of-the-world and eye-popping displays in numerous nude movies; she is getting people to talk about her tattoo. If you didn’t see Tonto’s tattoo in 2011, you definitely didn’t get to know what real news is in the past 12 months. Just when the year was about to end, Tonto gave scholarships to two kids and decided to pay late rapper, Dagrin, a visit. What is Tonto doing beside Dagrin’s grave? You might never be able to tell. Tonto is the kind of brand that stands not for your reason, but her own reason. Lest we forget, she still has the Asaba and Enugu movie mafia in her grip.

MoHit
Abuse them all you want for lacking in musical depth, but the MoHit crew were the news in 2011. From making the people dance to Oliver, making the Wande Coal trend for the second time, to getting signed on on Good Music owned by Kanye West, MoHit is it on the news blogs. For the record, D’banj became the highest earning musician of his generation in the past 12 months.

Wizkid
Ask anybody about the reigning musician in the industry, they won’t hesitate to tell you it’s Wizkid. The kid singer released a chart bursting album, went up the rank of high-earning musicians and made news for fathering a baby by a Ghana-based Nigerian undergraduate. No concert is complete at the moment without Wizkid heading it.

CELEBS RECOUNT MEMORABLE CHRISTMAS EXPERIENCES (YOU MUST READ THESE)

Damilola Purple and Tonto Dikeh

The celebrities are human too. They have memories of pain, love, pleasure and time. A number of celebs have opened up to Showbiz Now on their most memorable Christmas experience.

Stella Damasus
I was seven years old then. They took us all to my mother’s village in Owerri. We had a singing competition and I won. The rule was that every household must give me a gift. I got so many gifts than I could handle. That was so memorable.

Francis Duru
As a child, my father would always buy a big cock and would eat special Christmas rice with us. Another memorable experience was going to the church to watch Baby Jesus in a manger and attend Christmas carol. Times have changed, what children want now isn’t what we wanted as children. Things have changed.

Uche Jombo
December 28 is my birthday, so every December is always memorable for me. I don’t separate one from another. I mark my birthday and Christmas in December and, as far as I can remember, they have always been memorable.

Bhairay
Coming from an upwardly mobile family, everyone is so busy and on the go, even at Christmas. So, a couple of years ago, my mum sent me a flight ticket to come home as something serious had happened. Of course, I got into the next flight only to discover it was a prank! And she had sent every other person a return ticket as well just to get the family together for some great thanksgiving and family home-made meal!

Ali Baba
The first Christmas that Xqzmoi, my event centre hosted, besides being fully booked from November 23, 2006, till January 16, 2007, just to see a dream come to life, brought tears to my eyes. I’m working towards another project that would open in February 2012.

Segun Arinze
Being alive every Christmas is always very memorable because God kept me alive by His grace and compassion! I thank him for sustenance of life!

Blessing Egbe
My funniest time of Christmas was way back in the police barracks when the eve of Christmas was a big deal. We would stay up till the break of 25th, decorating the house and going from door to door singing carols in groups. And D-day it was a do or die matter to compare and flaunt your new Christmas dress, wear new shoes, hairdo and earrings. And after visiting every family friend and relation, we would retire to a home full of presents and gifts as compared to who got the most. And on the 26th, all boxes and presents would be opened.

Tonto Dike
My favourite memory of Christmas when I was a kid are new clothes, shoes, jewelleries and I would be unable to sleep at night (eve of Xmas) out of joy, because I couldn’t wait for dawn so I could bathe and slip tiny me into my new outfit to show off in church the next day (December 25th). Christmas was so much fun as a child.

Basket Mouth
My favourite Christmas memory is awkward, it was in 1999, we left school for the Christmas holiday and decided to spend it with my manager back then, Bayo Adekeye, in his home town (Ile Oluji) in Ondo State. His parents were not supposed to be around, but we were surprised with their presence and had to sneak out of the house to squat with some of his friends. It was the first and last Christmas I didn’t eat the traditional Christmas rice and stew. Didn’t even get a Christmas gift; it’s the one Christmas I would live to remember.

Damilola Purple
Its a different ball game now, before i used to watch Tv after church (Xmas Day), my food will be served and i dont have to do anything, i dont have to buy or cook anything... BUT now.. It is OYO (On YOUR OWN). Alot of responsiblity like i have to make sure my siblings are okay and with the fact that you have to make sure your girlfriend or fiancee looks good... mehn.. i wish i can go back to my old to life where i dont have to do anything... Lol.. i am enjoying my life now anyway

Monalisa Chindah
Christmas season brings forth the beauty of Christ, love and salvation. Spending precious moments with my diamond, Tamar, last Christmas left a soothing and lasting memory in me.

Denrele
My unequalled, unparalleled and unrivalled Christmas would be the very first time I was away from my family during Christmas! Christmas is always with family and I delight in trying to harass the daylight out of them, especially my dad, my sisters and my uncountable cousins!

The memorable Christmas would definitely be in 2008 with P-Square as we invaded Lusaka, Zambia. It was the final leg of their African tour and I was opportune as a media personality to tag along and report the whole event for Soundcity. The whole Zambia besieged us at the airport! We practically had to change hotels like four times, and for every radio interview we did, there were boundless crowd waiting for us outside!

FASHION FACE-OFF.TONTO DIKEH VS CHIKA IKE

Help me out here ! Who's doing the damn thing?

Who wore it best ?

TONTO DIKEH GIVES SCHOLARSHIP TO EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN

Sultry and one of Nollywood’s most controversies happy actress, Tonto Dikeh, who prefers to be called Poko is in the news again, this time, the Ikwerre born role interpreter is making the headlines for the good reason.

The 2006 Next Movie Star runner up had a nice time out with some exceptional children at a gathering in Ogba on Sunday December 11, which was tagged Tonto Dikeh With Exceptional Children.

The children, according to Tonto were called exceptional children based on their academic performance in their schools. They were children who came first, second and third positions in their respective schools.

Over 60 children were treated to a nice time with Tonto and showered with lots of fun, gifts, food to eat and drinks. Two children won educational scholarships from Tonto, with a three year old boy, Oluwajimi Omoba Bayodebot going home with a four year scholarship, while Ibitayo Adeyemo won a two year scholarship.

According to Tonto, she promised to put the two children in one of the best schools in the land, and make the children go to the dreams schools of their parents.

When NigeriaFilms.Com asked what happens if such parents cannot afford the fees of such schools after the initial scholarship runs out, Poko simply said, I have more plans for them, if I say I am giving a two or four year scholarship, it doesn’t mean that it is going to end at that.
“I will definitely going to provide a means for them to go ahead; I might probably continue to sponsor the rest of their educational careers. But this is what I am led to do at the moment.”

Speaking with NigeriaFilms.Com, Ibitayo, one of the winners said, I want to say thank you to Aunty Tonto, and may the Lord bless her. On the part of the three year old Jimi, he simply said, thank you to Aunty Tonto.

This is the first time Tonto would be doing such in Nigeria, as she said she has been doing this kind of gesture outside Nigeria for some time now, but feels happy to be doing this now in Nigeria.

According to her, she was moved to this, having taken a reflection to her childhood, where her dad rewards his children’s excellence at the end of their academic year. To her, this is just a way of taking her father’s step.

TONTO DIKE AND HALIMA ABUBAKAR END 2-YEAR RIFT

Tonto Dike and Halima Abubakar are two talented actresses in Nollywood.

The two of them were best of friends until 2 years ago when they fell apart, and won’t see eye to eye again.

As a matter of fact, they would do anything to avoid each other and crossing each other’s path.It was that bad.

However, before then, they stayed together in the same apartment,a development that fuelled speculations that they were lesbian partners and that they were just staying together under the pretence of being professional colleagues, while actually engaging in lesbianism.

During those good times,it was widely rumoured that Halima was also using Tonto’s cars all over town. All those and many more about their friendship called for suspicion, and subsequently made headlines at the time.

However, it was to the surprise of many who knew how close Tonto and Halima were 2 years after they fell apart, avoiding each other like a leper.
No one was able to point a finger to what could have led to the fight between them any way. They both kept mute all through but the evidence of the bad blood between these two actresses got to the extent that they didn’t want to be featured in the same movie. If any of them was cast in a film, the other would avoid being part of the same movie,no matter the money offered or who the producer or director was.

This was surprising to many of their collegues and even their fans and admirers because they did practically everything together back then. They attended events together, always in company of each other and all that.

But the lastest news about the cat and mouse relationship between Kogi State-born Halima and Rivers State born Tonto is that they have ended their 2 year rift and this is authentic.

The “No More War” scenario played itself out at the recent movie location of a new movie “Queen Sheba”.

The movie features the likes of Halima,Tonto,Oge Okoye,Jibola Dabo and a host of others.

At the location Halima reportedly went to where Tonto was and warmly embraced and even exchanged some pleasantries with her. This we gathered took many who witnessed it by surprise, what she did.

Halima we gathered also twitted on a social network, letting the world know that she is on set with stars including Poko,Tonto’s nick name. That she wouldn’t have mentioned when they were not in talking terms.

That also generated a lot of stories,as many of her fans were hailing her and praying for her.

FLIP SIDE OF TONTO DIKEH

TONTO Dikeh sure knows how to stay on top of her game. In spite of her seemingly derogatory disposition as Nollywood’s controversial screen diva and s** symbol, it is indeed commendable that the actress is about to fete 100 most brilliant students from both private and public schools in Lagos.

On why the actress who recently delved into music is reaching out to these students, she says, “The act of rewarding brilliant students with scholarships and through other means which used to be very prevalent in those days seems to have gone into extinction. There are thousands of intelligent students who need to be shown lots of love, if not for anything but for their outstanding successes. The idea is to appreciate them in any little way I can and this Christmas period provides an excellent opportunity.”

For those who probably think that 's**' is all there is to this sultry actress, Tonto has decided to chart a new course for herself after the weeks of controversies over her recently-acquired tattoo that covers over 70 percent of her back.

Her reward project for the students is billed to hold on December 10 at the Troy Bar and Restaurants, Ogba, Lagos.

I HAVE 57 TATOOS - TONTO DIKEH

I Have 57 Tatoos - Tontoorld of tattoos, which represents different things, Tonto Dikeh is one artiste that has never been free of controversies. When you talk of an actress that seems not to be bothered by controversies, Tonto comes to mind first. After being a runner up in the AMBO reality TV show in 2006, this light skinned Rivers State born make-believe queen has chosen turn deaf ears to the many bad stories making the rounds about her.

A Petro Chemical graduate, Tonto revealed the number of tattoos she has on her body. When recently asked if the tattoo on her neck was the only one on her body, this actress, who was recently involved in two different soft p**n movies, Dirty Secret and Strippers in Love, said, ‘I just did a recount, I have got 57 tattoos’. Though hated by some people, tattoos have now become a fashionable thing for young people. While some are looking for ways to remove them, many are dying to have one or more on their bodies.

With serious condemnation pouring out on her taking part in those soft p**n movies, Tonto has added another to it. Out of curiosity, she was asked what she was doing with this number of tattoos and the lkwere lady simply replied, ‘‘it is my body, no question’’. The tattoos, as gathered, runs through all parts of her body. One of the tattoos has the name Tee inscribed on her leg. Just recently, scientists warned those wearing tattoos to erase them as the heat of next year would have diverse and harmful effects on their bodies if not erased.

Tonto Dikeh Reacts To Tattoo Remarks: ‘It’s My Body’

A few weeks ago the daring entertainer showed off her inked body by posting a picture of herself via her Twitter account @Tontolet. The ‘freaky’ tattoo which runs across the entire upper back region of her body immediately generated heated comments on social media sites and dozens of blogs.

While most of the comments question the motive and taste of the controversial tattoo, some feel she has every right to ink any part of her body as she pleases.

‘You see that tattoo, I’m not saying she shouldn’t get it, but dis is unladylike, it’s ugly and trashy. Dirty!!!’ one comment read while another says ‘You don’t need to judge her like that. She owns her actions and the body belongs to her. So she is very free to do whatever she wants. Nice tattoo anyway.’

Tonto who says she has 57 stars and letters each on her body has now spoken out in an interview with Golden Icon. ‘If you say you don’t love my tattoos, it’s my body. At the end of the day, it’s my body’ she said.

‘I am so loving my body right now, I think I’m just addicted to the pain of a tattoos so I just keep having more and more’, she added. She also says she will be getting more tattoos.

PHOTO OF THE DAY.BETWEEN TONTO DIKEH AND KAS

Controversial actress, Tonto Charity Dikeh and ace music producer cum singer Kas hit the studio.

Its no longer news that Kas signed Tonto Dikeh to his music label as an artist. Tonto who has an album in the works has credited Kas with kick starting her new found music career.

The Most Beautiful Nollywood Actresses

Nigeria movie industry over 100’s of actresses but some of them are extremely desirable by man because of their outstanding beauty despite the fact that they are celebs and some of them are married, their shapes and extreme beauty have made NAOMI ADAMU writes.

Genevieve Nnaji

Nigerian actress, widely seen as the top actress in Nollywood, a superstar even. She is well-known not just in Nigeria but across English-speaking Africa, if not beyond. She is also, according to this blog, the most beautiful actress in Nigeria. I am hardly alone in that opinion. I have read that she has bad skin and duck feet, but she is a beauty to me!

In 2004 she was the face of Lux soap in Nigeria. Her face appeared on billboards across the country, she has appeared in dozens of films, at least 80. Nollywood films take about a month to make and most go straight to video. They seem to run about 90 minutes.

As of this writing (January 2009) you can see some of her films on YouTube – cut up into ten-minute pieces the longest video YouTube allows, I do not remember seeing her films there a year ago and I doubt they will still be there a year from now. So go see her while you have the chance! She acts in English.

I have not seen any of her films all the way through yet, so I do not know how much of her stardom is due to her charm and beauty and how much to her acting talent.

When she went to Sierra Leone after the war the people there were overjoyed to see her, like she was a visiting princess or something. People love her in Ghana too. Well, not everyone loves her. Most people tend to either love her or hate her. It is hard to be in the middle about her.

Her parents had a hard time accepting her decision to become an actress. Acting is not a universally respected profession in Nigeria, not like law or engineering. All the stories in the press about the private lives of Nollywood stars do not help either – it makes acting seem like an immoral way of life. So much so that people urge Nnaji to turn to God! She was a no body who had to prove her talent.

But now her troubles are those of being famous: the press that tries to tear her down and tell the world all about her private life, even spreading false stories about her. She had a child at 17 and one year she was not allowed to make any films at all neither of which was able to sink her star.

Dakore Egbuson

Dakore Egbuson (1978- ) is a Nigerian actress who calls herself the “it” girl of Nollywood. She was in “Emotional Crack”, “Dangerous Sisters” with Genevieve Nnaji, “Before the Sunrise” and dozens of others. She has won three Reel Awards, the top acting award in Nigeria. Who are rich and stuck on themselves. Despite her awards some say she is not so much acting as being herself, that she does not have a wide acting range, that she is put in films more for her beauty than for her acting talent.

She has beautiful eyes and lips and a lovely figure. She has dreadlocks avoiding the terrible hairdos Nollywood has seen and knows how to dress and carry her. She wears her hair in dreadlocks because it is easier than braids (which keep falling out) or a perm. But she also does it to show her African’s. Dreadlocks came to Nigeria from Jamaica, true, but it is a way for a black woman to wear her hair naturally.

She did not understand it till she was living in London: “When you see yourself in a sea of white people, you become more aware of whom you are.” Although she is an Ijaw, born in Bayelsa in the middle of the Niger Delta, she grew up in Lagos. Her father was a builder. She was sent to good schools and had the best of everything. She went to the University of Lagos and became a television presenter. She was not thinking about acting.

Then one day she ran into Emem Isong, a film producer. He took one look at her and wanted her in his shows. She read some lines for him. Nothing seems to come of it. But a year later, in 2000, he gave her the lead in a film, “Amsteel Malta Silent Tears”. That led to other films and the rest is history.

She was in Britain for a while. There she was a dancer and a backing singer. She was also a presenter and producer for BEN television, a channel on Sky Digital for black Africans living in Europe and North Africa. In 2007 she became the face of. Malta is a sort of virgin beer made into a soft drink. It is common in the Caribbean and West Africa

Omotola Jalade Ekeinde (1978- ), also known as Omosexy, is one of the top actresses in Nollywood, the Nigerian film industry. Known all across English-speaking Africa and beyond, only Genevieve Nnaji clearly outshines her.

She is probably best known for “Blood Sisters” (2003), “The Prostitute” and, the film that made her name, “Mortal Inheritance” (1996). She has been in more than 250 films. Most Nollywood films are cheap, straight-to-video affairs. In American terms she is sort of like Toccara Jones with the acting talent of Uma Thurman.

According to this blog, she is the second most beautiful Nigerian actress. I would watch a film just because she was in it. She is one of those women that it is hard for me to take my eyes off of. She has an amazing body, a full African figure. Her eyes seem a bit small and far apart, but I love her face all the same. Especially her mouth and the way she moves it.

Her beauty is even more amazing when you consider that she has had four children. She had them pretty early so it was easier for her to get back to her old shape. But now that her body knows a larger size, she has to fight it, exercising every day walking and watching what she eats plenty of fruit, turkey and chicken without the skin.

She says the secret to being beautiful is to love you. Get that right and all else will follow. It was easy for her to get into film: not only is she beautiful but she has natural acting talent, making characters come to life. Producers wanted her in their films!

In the early days her mother stopped her from taking certain parts: she was a strict Christian and brought up Omotola that way. It seems to have stuck with her. For one thing, Omotola has been married to the same man for 12 years. That is a long time for the Nollywood set.

Her father, the manager of a Lagos country club, died when she was young. It made her more serious than most. It also made acting possible: her father would not have allowed her to act, but with him gone they needed the money.

Omotola is Yoruba, but speaks English as if it was her mother tongue. Maybe it is, in 2006 it was discovered that film producers were paying her and other top stars huge sums of money. So they were not allowed to act in any films for a year. Some thought Nollywood would fall, but it made it through. In the meantime Omotola went into singing. She came out with one album and in 2008 is working on her second. Her first one was not so great.

Like Angelina Jolie, Omotola is a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations. They sent her to Sierra Leone and Liberia, two countries torn apart by war. The people there have seen her films and love her
