According to source,they kick started the ir relationship prior to the death of Omdina's late wife, Monsurat ( more popular with the stage name Moladun)

Insiders revealed before his arrest, Sherifat was a regular caller at Omidina's office- where he maintained a room.

They were several spotted at SP Hotel, Ebutte Metta- where the popular actor usually lodged.

On November 04 2011, when Baba Suwe was granted bail- Sherifat was with him all through the day and left the court with him.

Sources claim she cares for him like a 'dutiful wife' ever since.

Insiders claimed Sherifat is married- but her marriage is troubled and considered in some quarters 'over'.

COURT ORDERS NDLEA TO COMPENSATE BABA SUWE N25M

An Ikeja High Court has ordered the Nigerian Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to pay a sum of N25M (Twenty five million Naira) to popular actor and comedian Babatunde Omidina better known to the public as Baba Suwe.

As reported earlier, Baba Suwe and his counsel had dragged the NDLEA to court, suing for N100M damages for the unlawful detention of the actor which led to public humiliation. The order was given this morning Thursday, November 24, 2011 by presiding judge Justice Yetunde Idowu who cited that the detention of Baba Suwe by the NDLEA ‘was not justified’.

‘The actions of the NDLEA constitute a flagrant abuse and infringement of fundamental rights of the applicant’, Justice Idowu said. She also added, ‘the compensation awarded should reflect the extent of which the applicant’s dignity was damaged’.

In addition to the sum of money ordered to be paid, Justice Idowu also ordered the law enforcement agency to publish a statement of apology in two widely read Nigerian newspapers. The choice of newspapers is to be agreed by both counsels.

‘It is our hope that this judgement sends a large message to other law enforcement agencies’,  Chief counsel to Baba Suwe, Bamidele Aturu said. The NDLEA counsel T.E Asuquo acknowledged the judgement. ‘As your lordship wishes’, she said.

Contrary to report making the round that star actor,Babatunde Omidina popularly known as Baba Suwe is set to release a new movie title( “o ya`gbe ti” ) meaning “the one who has refused to pass faeces,”that will narrate his ordeal in the hands of NDLEA(National Drug Law Enforcement Agency),the comic act has debunked the rumor in a recent interview.

He said; There is nothing like that.I don’t even have the plan for that now.

It would be recall that the comedian was arrested by officers of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on his way to France on October 12, 2011 on the suspicions of ingesting substance suspected to be cocaine.After 24 days in NDLEA custody, fortune smiled on the actor as Justice Yetunde Idowu ordered Omidina’s release on bail, declaring that he should go home and reunite with his family since the NDLEA could not find any banned-drug-related substance in his excretions.

Drug Scandal: I was chained like a criminal – Nollywood actor Baba Suwe

Yesterday in Lagos, Nollywood actor Baba Suwe recounted his ordeals in the hands NDLEA, The actor, real name Babatunde Omidina, during a press conference, told of how he was chained like a deadly criminal. He also told of how he was humiliated in every way possible as the agency tried to find drugs in his body.

Suwe, who was there with his lawyers  Mr. Bamidele Aturu  and Mr Adindu Ogwuzor, said  his arrest was already ordered by people in power even before he arrived at the airport, because the moment he was sited at the airport, he was told to report to the office of the NDLEA, even before he was tested.

He noted that some powerful people must have instructed the NDLEA to ensure he was properly and publicly humiliated, because he was chained in the legs like a dangerous criminal before he was placed in front of a scanner. It’ll be recalled that the actor was later released after spending 24 days in the custody of the agency, and after the entire world closely followed his 25 bowel movements.

AFTERMATH OF BABA SUWE SAGA:NDLEA DRILLS STELLA DAMASUS

This period is indeed a bad one for Nollywood actors and actresses as the men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) seem to have taken an unusual but targeted interest in them over their alleged drug related offences. First it was Babatunde Omidina popularly known as Baba Suwe and now it is Stella Damasus.

Last week Thursday,10 of November 2011,popular actress Stella Damasus was thoroughly drilled by men of the anti-drug agency over what was suspected to be an attempt by the fair complexioned actress to smuggle drugs suspected to be cocaine to Dubai.

According to our source,the actress was taken into the custody of the NDLEA where she was searched thoroughly in a very rigorous pattern involving series of scans being carried out on her before she was let loose by the men of the agency. Interesting is the fact that Stella Damasus was delayed by the Drug Law Enforcers to the extent that she even missed her flight to Dubai and had to travel on another flight after she had been released.

The actress later twitted” Today I regret being a Nollywood Star” on her Twitter account as friends and fans of the actress questioned her on what could have necessitated the comment. Baba Suwe's Lawyer to sue Nigerian Government

LAGOS, Nigeria, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- A lawyer for a comic actor in Nigeria said he will sue government authorities for holding the actor 24 days after his arrest on drug-trafficking suspicion.

Babatunde Omidina, who is known as the comedian Baba Suwe, was arrested Oct. 12 at Murtala Mohammed International Airport after a body scan showed what looked like drugs in his stomach. But the BBC reported the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency admitted he had failed to excrete any drugs and he was released in Lagos.

His lawyer, Bamidele Aturu, told Vanguard Saturday he would seek monetary damages in the suit. "Citizens' rights are inviolable. Therefore those in authority must do everything not to abridge or violate the right of the Nigerian citizen," Aturu said.

He said the agency had shown contempt for the country's laws. "They kept him for 24 days without getting any evidence and that in itself constitutes a very gross violation of our constitution," Aturu said. "You can't arrest a person for this long period without evidence."

Omidina acts in English and Yoruba language films, often playing a befuddled butler or security guard.

Baba Suwe: NDLEA pumped water into my anus to no avail

Nollywood actor, Babatunde Omidina a.k.a. Baba Suwe, said on Friday that the officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency “pumped water” into his anus, apparently in their bid to make him defecate the narcotic substances he allegedly ingested. He told a Lagos High Court in Ikeja that he defecated several times after “the water was pumped” into him.

On confirming from the NDLEA, represented by its Director of Prosecution and Legal Services, Mr. Femi Oloruntoba, that Omidina had not excreted any narcotic substance since Tuesday when he was granted bail, Justice Yetunde Idowu asked him to go home, having fulfilled the other conditions of the bail.

Idowu had ordered on Tuesday that the NDLEA should release Baba Suwe from its custody if by Friday, no banned substances were found in his excretion. His lawyer, Mr. Bamidele Aturu, said Baba Suwe told him just before the court sitting that he had defected more than 25 times since his arrest on October 12.

Omidina stepped out of the court room at about 11.30 am to meet a large crowd, comprising his fans and colleagues in the entertainment industry. He was immediately whisked away by some of his friends in a blue car, as the large cheering crowd surged forward to catch a glimpse of him.

Aturu earlier told the court that Baba Suwe’s N500,000 bail with one surety had been perfected. The judge asked him to go home, urging him to take care of himself and “enjoy the sallah with your family.” She, however, acceded to the NDLEA’s request that the actor be made to report at the agency’s office in Murtala Muhammed International Airport on Thursday for further investigation.

The judge granted the request with an undertaking from the NDLEA that Baba Suwe would not be held in the office for more than two hours. While responding to the judge’s question, Omidina told the court that he was taken to a hospital that he could not identify on Wednesday, at about 9 am and remained there till 9 pm.

He said, “The day after I was granted bail (Wednesday), they just came at about 9 am and took me to a hospital in Victoria Island. When we got to the hospital, they put something in my mouth and another in my anus. “They now pumped water into my anus. After they pumped water into my anus I started defecating. “I defecated again several times on getting to their office.” Oloruntoba said he was not aware of the development when asked by the judge.

But Baba Suwe was able to identify one of the operatives of the agency, who took him to the hospital. The NDLEA official confirmed that the actor was taken to the agency’s laboratory on Wednesday morning. He said Omidina was taken to the agency’s hospital in Ikoyi, from where a doctor directed that he should be taken to their laboratory in Lekki.

He told the court that it was the doctor who was in a better position to give a report and the nature of examination performed on the actor. Idowu said, “This is not proper. This is a human being and not a robot. I don’t feel comfortable with this. At least, the man deserves some respect regardless of the fact that he is in your custody. “You are doing that kind of test without his consent and the knowledge of his counsel.” The judge was also dissatisfied that there was no result given to the effect of the test.

After being in detention for three weeks for allegedly carrying drugs, NDLEA today released the comic actor.

So what exactly happened here? If he didn't carry drugs, why was he arrested? Will he be right to sue the NDLEA?

Court Ordered NDLEA To Release Baba Suwe By Friday

The latest news about Yoruba Actor Babatunde Omidina aka Baba Suwe is that an Ikeja high court has ordered NDLEA to release him by Friday if he doesn’t excrete the suspected hard drug. While giving her ruling, Justice Yetunde Idowu of Ikeja High Court said:

“The only thing hindering me from releasing the applicant today is because of the Federal High Court order of 20 October. I don’t want to meddle with that order. But if he (applicant) does not excrete the suspected substance he is accused of harbouring in his stomach by Friday, NDLEA should release him on bail”.

She set a bail of N500,000 on Baba Suwe with 2 sureties in similar sum, and additional ordered that his int’l passport be deposited with the High Court Chief Registrar.

Just after Twenty days and nights in NDLEA custody, the officers presented the arrested Nollywood star Babatunde Omidina aka Baba Suwe at an Ikeja High court in Lagos today. The popular Yoruba comedian was excited with overwhelming support from his fans and fellow Nigerian Actors who came to witness the courtroom proceedings.

On Oct 12, 2011, Baba Suwe was caught and detained by NDLEA on suspicions of cocaine intake at the Murtala Muhammed Int’l Airport in Lagos while getting ready to board a flight enroute Paris. Baba suwe later sued NDLEA for illegal detention and requested a total sum of N1 billion naira in damages.

DAY 19: Actors Want Baba Suwe Charged Or Released

Yoruba-speaking actors under the umbrella of the Nigerian Theatre Practitioners (ANTP) have asked the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) to either place a formal charge on the popular actor Baba Suwe to court or release him ‘unconditionally’ if they cannot come up with any evidence of his possession of hard drugs, the Vanguard has reported.

Ever since his October 12 supposed arrest, colleagues, friends and the actor’s family have raised concerns about his wellbeing. Today makes it 19 whole days since he has been in detention. On November 1, 2011 Baba Suwe will step out for the first time since his apprehension as he will make an appearance at the Ikeja High Court following a suit filed by a fundamental enforcement rights at the Lagos high Court, Ikeja presided over by Justice Yetunde Idowu.

In related news, two men Nnoli Valentine, 41 and Onyegbuna Patrick 25 have been arrested and taken into the custody by the NDLEA after they were detected to be drug traffickers. According to the NDLEA Abuja Airport commander, Alhaji Hamisu Lawan, Nnoli is a Nigerian based in Berlin, Germany ingested 99 wraps of substances that tested positive for cocaine weighing 1.6kg. He was arrested while attempting to board a KLM flight to Amsterdam. The second suspect Onyegbuna Patrick ingested 67 wraps of substances that that tested positive for cocaine weighing 1.250kg. Onyegbuna was caught returning from Sao Paulo, Brazil.

In statement released by the NDLEA, during interrogation of both suspects, they told investigators that they were advised to use Abuja Airport because of the attention on the Lagos airport over the recent red alert on Baba Suwe who has been under observation of the Agency.

DAY 17: Baba Suwe To Appear In Court November 1

The last two and a half weeks have been quite entertaining for Nigerians who have followed the NDLEA/Baba Suwe drama. Without paying a dime to buy or rent his movies, we have enjoyed every bit of a comedy series that doesn’t look like its ending soon.

Let’s do a short recap: On Wednesday, October 12, 2011 Baba Suwe (real name Babatunde Omidina) was reported in several papers to have been arrested by the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on suspicion of possession of hard drugs believed to be Cocaine while attempting to depart Lagos for Paris on a 10pm scheduled Air France flight AF3051. He was immediately taken into custody and placed under ‘observation’ where the NDLEA said he ‘tested positive to Drug Ingestion’.

The news of Baba Suwe’s supposed ‘arrest’ spread like wild fire and even made its way to foreign online publications like BBC.com and Yahoo News. Trust social networks like Facebook and Twitter to have already made the news a trending topic. It wasn’t the first time a Nigerian actor would be detained over the suspicion of possession of hard drugs but Baba Suwe is practically known by everybody. The search for hard substances in his excrete soon became a global concern.

The NDLEA through their rep Ofoyeju Mitchell later on disclosed to the general public that they never arrested the actor but that he was only detained by their officials. ‘There is reasonable ground for suspicion and the actor is currently under observation’, Hamza Umar, NDLEA Airport commander disclosed. As of the sixth day in NDLEA custody, the actor had excreted three times but nothing was found.

Today makes it 17 full days in detention for a now embattled Baba Suwe and tongues have started wagging. Some believe that that the actor should have been released after his third day in custody but a Federal High Court on Friday, October 21, 2011 approved the request made by the NDLEA to further keep the accused in custody for 15 more days. The request which was made through NDLEA’s lawyer, Theresa Asuquo was granted by Justice Okechukwu Okeke.

Reports also say that a 29-paragraph affidavit presented by an NDLEA intelligence officer, Femi Johnson Osifuye and a CT scan result issued by a consultant radiologist from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Dr. Subhash Vijayvargiya further suggested that Baba Suwe has ‘large amounts of drugs’ in his body.

The NDLEA also made known to the court that Baba Suwe while under observation refused to eat, claiming that he eats only once in three days. Hence they reason for keeping him longer.

This however didn’t stop a ‘Fundamental Rights Group’ to drag the NDLEA to court and even sue them for N100M (One hundred million Naira). On Tuesday, October 26, 2011, a fundamental enforcement rights suit was filed at the Lagos high Court, Ikeja presided over by Justice Yetunde Idowu. Justice Idowu ordered the NDLEA to produce Baba Suwe in court on Tuesday, November 1, 2011 in suit for the enforcement of his ‘fundamental rights’.

Baba Suwe’s son, Adesola Omidina in an affidavit before the court made it known that his father told him that he eats thrice daily and has excreted eight times so far. The affidavit further stated that his father has been a diabetic patient for over five years and is in danger of death.

However, the NDLEA say they are still observing. ‘We are still investigating, thank you’, Ofoyeju told Nigerian Entertainment last week. The 15-day custody will end on November 5, 2011.

Court orders NDLEA to produce Baba Suwe Featured

A Lagos High Court, in Ikeja, on Wednesday ordered the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency to produce Nollywood actor, Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, in court on Tuesday, to allay the fears of his family members over his state of health.

Omidina on Friday, sued the NDLEA, demanding N100m from the agency for allegedly violating his fundamental human rights. He contended that the anti-drug body violated his right by keeping him in its custody for more than the constitutionally-allowed 24 hours since October 12.

Justice Yetunde Idowu ordered the NDLEA to produce Omidina “physically in court” on Tuesday following an application by his counsel, Mr. Bamidele Aturu. Idowu said the actor’s physical presence in court would allay the apprehension of both his family and the public over his state of health and his safety in the NDLEA custody.

The NDLEA, represented by its Director, Prosecution and Legal Services, Mr. Femi Oloruntoba, acceded to the prayer seeking that Baba Suwe be produced in court at the next adjourned date. Oloruntoba however, raised concern about the security challenges likely to be introduced by the crowd which Baba Suwe’s presence in court might attract.

But Idowu, dismissed any fear concerning security, saying “we have to consider the mind of the family.” She assured that measures would be put in place to ensure security by keeping such a crowd away from the court premises

New scan shows Nollywood actor Baba Suwe has large amount of drugs in his body

This case is becoming more and more bizarre. Nollywoodgossip just learned that new scan showed that Nollywood actor Baba Suwe has large amount of drugs in his body, even though he has made many excretions without any trace of drugs.

And a Nigerian Federal High Court has granted the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, permission to hold the Yoruba star for 15 more days. Channels Television this evening reported that Justice Okechukwu Okeke granted NDLEA’s order based on CT scan results by a consultant radiologist with the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH).

It was learnt that Dr. Subhash Vijayvargiya, who consults for LASUTH, conducted the CT Scan and reportedly confirmed through the results that Baba Suwe has large amounts of narcotic drugs in his body.

NDLEA intelligence officer, Femi J. Osifuye, also disclosed that while on observation, Baba Suwe refused to eat claiming that he eats only once in three days.

Day 11: NDLEA To Detain Baba Suwe For 14 More Days

It’s been 11 whole days since Yoruba movie actor Baba Suwe (real name Omidina Babatunde) was detained officers from the National Drug Law and Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Muritala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.

Reports say that a Federal High Court on Friday, October 21, 2011 approved the request made by the NDLEA to further keep popular comedian the popular actor in custody for 15 more days. The request which was made through NDLEA’s lawyer, Theresa Asuquo was granted by Justice Okechukwu Okeke. Reports also say that a 29-paragraph affidavit presented by an NDLEA intelligence officer, Femi Johnson Osifuye and a CT scan result issued by a consultant radiologist from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), Dr. Subhash Vijayvargiya. The documents suggest that Baba Suwe has ‘large amounts of drugs’ in his body.

The NDLEA also made known to the court that Baba Suwe while under observation refused to eat, claiming that he eats only once in three days. Hence they reason for keeping him longer. After his second excretion, they were forced to conduct a CT scan on him. They also advised the actor in his best interest to excrete whatever substance he had swallowed as it would be disastrous for him if it burst in his stomach

However, speaking with Baba Suwe’s publicist Olatunji Saliu, he says Baba Suwe has chosen to remain silent to the whole matter. And on the news going around that the actor has sued the NDLEA, he says ‘Baba Suwe hasn’t said anything; those suing are Human rights activists whole feel concerned for the actor. ‘They feel Baba Suwe’s detention for 10 days in unlawful since they have not been able to find anything on him after 48 hours‘, Saliu says.

On Monday, Baba Suwe met with his family and had a ‘father to son’ discussion with his first son Sola. Just yesterday, fellow Nigerian movie actors like Jide Kosoko, Ajala, Monsuru Obadina and movie producer Gbenga Adewusi met with the actor. Baba Suwe who was detained on October 12 in suspicion of possession of hard drugs is still being detained at the NDLEA office at the MMIA, Ikeja. ‘We are still investigating‘, NDLEA spokesperson Ofoyeju Mitchell says.

ARTISTES CALL FOR BABA SUWE'S RELEASE+ANOTHER TWO SUSPECTS ARRESTED

MEMBERS of the Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners (ANTP), led by their former president, Prince Jide Kosoko, have called for the immediate release of the ace comedian, Babatunde Omidina, a.k.a. Baba Suwe, who is currently being held by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

He said Baba Suwe had been made to go through public humiliation, adding that what had been done to him was unjust punishment for an innocent man. Present at the conference were Gbenga Adewusi, a.k.a. Bayowa; Monsuru Oba-dina, Bukky Wright, Afusat Balogun a.k.a. Madam Saje, Sokoti, Kola Olaiya, Alabi Yellow and others.

Also, the president-elect of the association, Mr Dele Odule, has decried the attitude of NDLEA on Baba Suwe, describing it as a violation of his fundamental human rights. Meanwhile, the family of the ace comedian has hired the services of a Lagos lawyer, Mr Bamidele Aturu, over his continued detention in NDLEA custody.

The lawyer had also written a letter to the Director-General of the agency, Mr Femi Ajayi, demanding his unconditional release. The family gave the NDLEA a seven-day ultimatum to tender apology in three national dailies circulating all over Nigeria, while also demanding that Baba Suwe be paid N1 billion as compensation for the damage that the arrest and detention had done to his person and reputation while in the custody.

In another development, two suspected drug traffickers have been arrested at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. NDLEA Airport Commander, Alhaji Hamza Umar, gave the names of the suspects as Ezeanochie Oliver Ndodi, 32, enroute Emirate flight to Malaysia and Amoo Tolase Duro-woju, 27, who was to board Air France to Dublin on October 12.

According to the NDLEA spokesman, Mitchelle Ofo-yeju, both suspects would be charged to court soon.

COMIC ACT, BABA SUWE TO FILE A LAWSUIT AGAINST NDLEA FOR DEFAMATION OF CHARACTER

According to NDLEA Director-General, Femi Ajayi, Babatunde Omidina, aka Baba Suwe would undergo Computerised Tomography Scan (CT Scan). and if the scan result shows that the actor has no drug concealed in his stomach, then he will be released.

He claimed the comic Actor will be released if after third excretion, no drug is found. This is in line with the NDLEA standard operational rule that says suspect should be released after third excretion.

Ajayi further said Baba Suwe will only get an apology from NDLEA as he should take this as a sacrifice in the war against drugs. He ruled out the possibility of the actor taking legal action.

Ajayi said: “As far as we are concerned Baba Suwe is innocent, at least for now, it is just normal that when there is reasonable suspicion, we take people in for observation. We learnt that Baba Suwe would likely file a lawsuit against NDLEA for defamation of character.

Further findings revealed that Nigerian actors under the umbrella of the Association of Nigeria Theatre Arts Practitioners are currently putting arrangements in place to stage a mass protest over the continuing detention of the actor. On Sunday, October 16 2011, the ANTP leadership circulated a message among it members reproduced below.

'This is the 4th day of Baba Suwe in NDLEA custody without anything found on him. NOW is time for us to talk. They owe us explanations as we have to act now. Be prepared for a massive rally. Expect further information on this soon, pass this message to others 4RM Prince Jide Kosoko' The move is aimed at championing a growing agitation for the release of the suspect.

Baba Suwe drug saga: after third excretion NDLEA want more

Nollywood actor, Baba Suwe, has so far made three excretions with no trace of drug, Nollywoodgossip can reveal. Yet the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA maintain that the actor must make more excretions to be able to convince them. And according to P. M News, The NDLEA Head of Public Affairs, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju told them: “I can confirm that Baba Suwe is still under observation. He excreted for the third time last night and no drug was found. But he remains under observation.

It will not end at the third excretion because it depends on body composition. For some people it takes more time, more excretions. It really depends on the body of each individual.” The Lagos airport Commander of the NDLEA, Mr. Hamza Umar, has said that there is enough ground for suspicion, adding that in previous arrests, some suspects had excreted the drug at the fourth excretion. With the controversy over whether or not the particles detected by the Soter RS scanner were drugs or some other particles like food, the reliability of the US-donated scanner is being put to test.

Already, the continued detention of the comedian six days after he was arrested and after three excretions that have all tested negative to drug ingestion has fuelled sentiments among Baba Suwe’s admirers and supporters. With Nigeria and the entire world waiting for his fourth – and hopefully final –excretion, Baba Suwe, seem to possess the most anticipated excretion of all time.

NDLEA; why we’re still holding Baba Suwe

Spokesman for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, Mr. Mitchell Ofoyeju, yesterday, explained the reason the comic actor, who was arrested last Wednesday night for alleged drug trafficking, is still being held by the agency. He said:

Baba Suwe is still in our custody and under observation. Since he was arrested Wednesday, he has excreted twice.  First, he excreted on Friday and we did not find any drug and on Saturday he excreted again, still we did not find any drug. But, it is normal because we would not have arrested him if the scanner did not show that he has something in his system. 

We have had people who stayed longer before they started excreting; so, we are still observing him. It is just that we are now doing our investigation on this particular suspect on the pages of newspapers.”
